Ok im stumped with this Ive got a usb midi interface which i have been using midi out from pc to midi in to sound module works great. Ive decided to try some sequencing. So i got me yamaha music composer out linked it to pc so it was yamaha midi out to midi on pc.Now the led on the usb interface is flashing like mad ie data activity but im not getting a single thing to the pc. so i tried a casio keyboard data from pc to keyboard no problem but keyboard to pc same thing led data light flashing but i get nothing on pc.So i tried it on another pc which i am modifying same problem. Next stage was to go back to what i used a few years ago i installed my soundcard and plugged in a serial midi interface now this used to work great but im getting same prob as the usb interface pc to external device ok but external device to pc nothing any ideas

Step 1: Check that they're connected correctly, some usb interfaces (espeially Cheapies) misname the OUT the IN and vice versa. Try hooking em up the other way round, you won't hurt anything.

OK... Step 2: Load up a sequencer program (eg: Cakewalk etc) and make sure the midi in/source is set to RECEIVE from your usb interface keys/yamaha composer. Set the midi out to your module and make sure that you have the midi thru function ticked so that it'll sound on the module. See how that goes... if you have a time you can visit the MM chatroom let me know, I can walk you through it all with feedback from you on what happens as we do each step. Cheers, Dave.

Right, the point of step 2 was to show that you need to have your sequencer program running if you're using that sort of setup and want to hear what you're inputting via midi. WinXP should run Sound Studio fine and the usb input isn't the problem.
Step3: Go to the preferences/setup/midi device section of Sound Studio (or any sequencer program) and select the usb interface as the input. If it's not there to be selected then re-install the usb interface's midi drivers. Let me know how you're going. Cheers, Dave.

OK, it's all good. I don't own Sound Studio but looking at their website it seems to be capable of doing everything you need so if all your other sequencer programs work fine... Step4: Uninstall Sound Studio, reinstall it, check their website for any updated drivers for your version and install those if applicable. Good luck.

That's weird, I can access it easily from here. Did you try the second site (the M audio one)? If you can't get it just Google "Evolution Sound Studio" and you'll find the m-audio link there. BTW, it says on the site that the Evolution usb driver needed IS different from the Windows usb driver. You can email m-audio support too, they still support the Evolution products. Good Luck mate, don't get frustrated and don't give up on it... like most pc problems, it'll all seem soooo simple once you finally get it sorted. Cheers, Dave.

Alright Levi, I think I've got it sorted for you. I have SSPro up and running and it recognises my usb driver without any problems. I tried recording a new midi track via usb and it worked fine. I've just given it a quick test-drive. First Question: When you go to Options>midi device> do you see your usb as an input device? If so, here's what you do; make sure it's highlighted and that it's the only one highlighted. For midi output do the same, which will route the sound to your module (just highlight the usb for now, even though it should do multiple outputs). To record a track you need to click on "Functions" button (top right, under the e-track sign) and select "add midi track". You then need to set up the track by right/left clicking the channel, pgm, volume etc, then press the record button on the track tab... hit record on the transport control and you're away. It works fine here, the only departure from most sequencer programs seems to be having to set up the track details manually, they default to OFF. If you don't see your usb driver as a midi input option, you'll need to re-install the driver as I said earlier in the thread. Cheers, Dave.
