As you may be aware, the US will be electing a new president this November. I was curious to have your input on who you would like to see become the President of the US. It is extremely divided over in the US, and I believe this election will be the most important one in my lifetime. It is evident to me that all countries are intrinsically tied to one another and what goes on in one country directly affects another country, especially in the financial markets. Who do you think will be a better president to deal with not only US affairs but also abroad to help stabilize the world economy? It would be interesting to hear how you view the US and where you think we as a country are heading.

Everything points to Obama and may be the most historic leap the US has ever taken. My main concern would be a weak foreign policy. Regardless of what some may think of ole D'bya Bush, and a recent poll shows that many believe things are worse since the intervention in Iraq and Afghanistan, my question is, " How critical would things be today in the world, had there been no intervention' and that democratic nations had not stood up to extremists?" Still, it's a time of change, I think the US will elect Obama as it's 44th President.

A good question. I think perhaps McCain may be the better (more experienced) man but, as a cancer survivor in remission and at 72, one has to look very hard at his running mate. Michael, sorry Sarah Palin, as President, should the worst happen? May the world be blessed by that not happening. So ... it has to be Obama, at least for me. JG. PS John Cleese recently said that now Sarah not Michael was the funniest Palin. I dont think he meant funny as in Ha ha. See here: www.guardian.co.uk/world/oliverburkemanblog/2008/oct/14/uselections2008-sarahpalin

As John has said the more experienced candidate is McCain, but as he also pointed out because of his health hi is probably not a good option. A lot has been said about Obama but i have watched his interviews and debates and it leaves me with this conclusion `Thank God` i`m in the UK. I don`t think he has a strong foreign or finance policy and at some of the public meetings he was `fishing` for answers much like good old George Wubbu, as for their running mates Obama`s is unheard of internationally and Palin has been found guilty of abusing her office. I rest my case thank God i`m in sensible Norn Ireand

Where for goodness sake is Norn Ireand? Or have you been at the hard stuff? Seriously though, Obama has a half reasonable running mate so I'm hopeful. It comes down not to the polls as usual but what people actually think that moment before they punch their card or pull the lever or whatever they do over there in the US of A. More "hanging chads" to be discounted again no doubt. Oh well, we get what we get. Make the right decision JazzCat, it all depends on you! JohnG.

Oh, good Lord, no more hanging chads ;d
Obama has a 10 point over all lead in opinion polls by Gallop and if this trend keeps up he will be the next US top bloke. If he'd a picked Hillery as his running mate he be 20+ points clear of the Republican nominee.
I do not mind who wins as long as it's Obama ;d

Definitely not McCain..the last thing the world needs is another Bush lapdog....as for him being the more experienced, well they said the same about "Dubya"....enough said!! Bring on Obama...America needs a man with fresh ideas who will put them back as world leaders once again...and he has family roots up the road in Co. Offaly!! So come on Obama...the Republicans have done enough damage in recent years!!

Many times, I have let election day just pass on by because I felt that my vote didn't count. This time, my vote will be counted in favor of Barack Obama. I believe that God made us all the same and I can hear in his voice, that Mr. Obama would agree with me, even though I have not had the chance to meet him in person.

Thanks JohnG. I often wonder in conversations with friends here, a person's name will come up and folks want to know, what that person is worth. They don't want to know things like, does this person care about others, or does he or she shoot straight and try to be honest and practical in dealings with humanity. They want to know how much money and power a person has. I really get the shakes when I turn on the news and hear the republicans talking about experience. My question is what kind of experience is really there behind the campaign advertisements. I finally said to myself, "Rodney, just listen to the canditates talk, forget the fancy trimmings.' Well, sometimes I start talking and don't know when to stop, so let me say best wishes and thanks.

Well, Rodney, you are in good company here. Many on this forum will not be able to vote in the US election and if we would I am sure a lot would go for Obama. I do know that virtually all my relations in the States will be casting theirs for Barack.
Gerry, sorry to say this but the part of Co. Offaly Barack's ancestors are from is called Moneygal and it's just outside Roscrea, which as you will know is in Tipperary. So we in Tipp are also making a claim, albeit a rather tenuous one, for him ;d

Well by my reckoning from the above comments it's 100% for Barack Obama and I totally agree that he is the statesman that America have not had for so many years and a total opposite to the warmongering buffoon that is George .W. The only things that bother me are,, why the opinion polls are so close when it seems so obvious to the outsiders that Obama is the clear choice for President, and also I'm concerned when I read reports that Obama is already a target for assassination such is the racial bigotry in the USA and the desperation of the Dark Forces within the Republican Party. Anyway I hope I've not offended anyone with my opinions and I pray my fears are unfounded Regards Bigmike

Hi Mike.
Some of the independent polls are currently showing Barack 7 or 8 points clear. Polls brought out by the likes of Fox News and other Republican leaning outlets are merely for amusement purposes and not to be taken seriously. IMO ;d

I'll pitch for Obama !!!!! He may not have the experience, but he has the right vision and I believe he will have a commonsensical approach to lots of issues and I am sure he will rein in all the expertise he has in the team he is with and there'll be a professional touch to the decisions he will make. The going isn't going to be easy and he will be handed over the hard times from the previous regime, but he should and will make a common man's president. I hope to see a kinder U.S.A. and not as a World Policeman. Let the spirit of good Country Music come forth.

I used to say, God bless America, now its God bless the world. I guess I was too busy doing my own thing rather than to stop and think that folks from other countries would care who gets to be president over here. I'm thankful to be among friends and will think about You all on election day.

Thank you, everyone, for expressing your opinions, wishes, beliefs, etc. regarding this upcoming US presidential election. As I read your posts, it occurrs to me that all of us basically want the same thing....change for the better. Both candidates are pushing for change. It's the direction of those changes that makes people feel uncomfortable and even scared. Change always invokes a certain amount of apprehension and uneasiness. Changing jobs...changing relationships....changing lifestyles....whatever. I feel that fear of change is what makes people react one way or another. Do we change from the familiar to the unknown simply because anything is better than what we already have? Do we stay the course and not make a change for fear that a change will make things worse? It seems to me that fear of anything will provoke some type of change. If you decide not to do anything, you have still made a decision. Will THAT decision make things better or worse? The only thing we can do is voice our opinion when it comes time to vote and pray for guidance when we pull the handle on the voting machine. Voting is an individual conviction based on how we feel inside about a certain candidate or issue. If we could remove the "fear factor" and vote with conviction based on what each of us believes, then we have voted in spite of fear and not because of it. As Musicman said "God Bless the world" for we are all His children.
