Hi guys, last night i used the sonic cell for the first time as a backing machine, its impossible to put it into words the sound that comes out of it, the reverb from it is simply mindblowing!!
Blows all other modules out of the water, its like having a whole Orchestra behind you with a first class live feel to it.
Go on, treat yourselves to one, believe me you won't regret it.
(Got another two gigs out of last nights show, paying for itself already).

Hi, How did you use the sonic cell? As i am thinking of buying one
load the files to the memory? Read from flash drive? Use a midi interface? Laptop? Did you have to edit any of your files first?

Hi trout, yeah i just loaded the files i use to usb memory, take it out of the computer and plug it into the back of sonic cell and away you go, you can also use the sonic cell playlist editor to put the tracks in order, i also ran my guitar through it, the sound comes out pure crystal. It plays standard midis, mp3, wav etc.
I firstly use VSC to edit files and change key, tempo etc, and then download to usb memory.
It really is a serious piece of kit and very easy to use.

Re:Update on sonic cell. Hi Tubbs, simmo here, i have been following with interest your comments on sonic cell as i myself am thinking about getting one, how many midis can it store as i seem to remember Jazzcat mentioned in her excellent summary of it a little while ago it only held around ninety songs, dont quote me on this as i may have got mixed up with something else,i think a memory stick depending on its capacity can store several hundred midis so perhaps you could put us in the picture on this one.My other query is how do you find the window in which you read for all the info, i had a look at a sonic cell recently & the window seemed fairly small but with yourself having used it in a live situation it may function ok, i was impressed with your description of the quality of the sounds you got it really seems impressive, finally is it easy to scroll through your song list. The prices in Perth are more expensive than the UK but at the end of the day if it does a great job its probably worth it.What i like about midimart is you are able to get answers about various pieces of equipment, advice on all sorts of midi problems without being at the hands of salesmen who's sole aim is to sell you something which may or may not be in your best interest, especially if you are a novice like myself, so a big thankyou to all the staff & members of MM.Incidently Perth had 40c Xmas day & today got to a record 44c ,my wife & i visited the kids who live about an hour away for a family get together but owing to a spate of bushfires it took us over two hours to get home via detours but the good news is it will be down to the high 30's for the rest of the week.Well i'd better stop rambling on so all the very best wishes for the new year to all, from the simmo clan downunder

Hi simmo and a happy new year to ya mate.
Firstly, regarding song capacity, the sonic cell is able to read and manage 99 songs by reading from a usb memory stick which is inserted in the back of the machine, but as memory sticks are cheap to buy you can put all your songs on 4 or 5 of them and have them with you when gigging, the window is small but very easy to read simmo as all the writing is highlighted and the playlist is easy to manage, the software that comes with it is simply amazing, making the worst midi file sound like you have the james last orchestra behind you!
Im not in anyway technologically advanced, but i found this very easy to use and set-up.
If you do invest and you need a hand with anything, gimme a shout mate

Hi tubbs,
I'm so pleased to hear that you bought one - I remember your post about the SD-20/80 a few weeks back.
The first thing that struck us was how good the sounds are. A few weeks prior to the Sonic Cell launch in South Africa, we met the regional sales manager from Roland Japan - he was on a visit with Robert Marcello to promote the Boss GT8. When we asked him about the Sonic Cell, he said that Roland were really happy with the new sounds, and that they thought it was their best work yet, in terms of sound modules.
After that, I couldn't wait to get my hands on one, and it has definitely lived up to our expectations.
So far, we've explored about 5% of the capability of the device - can't wait to see what it can REALLY do.
Cheers.

G/day again Tubbs, re sonic cell, when you edit your midis in preparation to load them onto sonic cell via a memory stick, do you run them through any type of sound module during the editing process to improve the sound quality or do you rely on the sonic cell to give you the better quality instrument sounds, also can you change things like different drumkits with the sonic cell once it is loaded onto the unit. the reason i am asking is that with my basic editing skills i am able to do adjustments such as tempo & key changes, change instruments, adjust volume settings plus a little bit of cut & paste but i have to work with the sounds of my soundcard which is a creative sb audigy 2zs, i am using cakewalk sonar as the programme to do my editing in, will my finished product be ok to then get the better sounds offered by the sonic cell once i load it on via my memory stick. i hope i have explained myself ok & any advice from anyone is very much appreciated, i am that close to getting a sonic cell & these were a couple of things i was a little unsure of. thanks for being so patient with me. kind regards simmo

Hi simmo, when you purchase sonic cell you also get with it Sonar LE and Sonic cell editor software, with these you can edit, add/change instruments, add reverb/chorus etc, more or less everything apart from make the tea!! Like all things new you will learn at your own pace to do these and the manual supplied gives a step by step guide. To use for gigging mate you can also simply use what you are using now, just get the right key and tempo, download to usb flash drive, plug it into sonic cell and away you go and the sonic cell will use its own onboard instruments to bang out the sound, and what a sound it is!! I've only explored about 20% of its capacity so far mate. I was thinking will i/won't i, but im glad i did mate, even Roland have said it is the most realistic sound module they have ever released. If i can be of any more assistance mate just shout!!

Ey up tiny, yeah you can plug a Mic/Guitar/keyboard into it and add effects to them, you can also plug in any external midi device, i played it with the guitar through and it sounded awesome, fantastic reverb/chorus on it.
