Hi Paul as this is PC related I thought it best to ask here.
What would you or others recommend as the best antivirus package around?
I'm specifically looking for something that won't slow my laptop to a crawl, I heard that some of them do this. Also something that won't take over my registry, etc.....
Thanks in advance.

Nod 32 is not one I have heard about.
Bulldog I hear is pretty good and also does not slow down the system but after looking at their website they look expensive - 60 euros for a years cover with their very basic package.
I might try the one lucky mentioned.
Thanks thingy.

Excellent choice on NOD32, we have sold this as flagship for years and i have NEVER found a problem with it. totally customisable, easy to use, pre-emptive protection, mail scan, and it's updated every day... automatically!!!!!
What more could you ask for.

Hi Emerald I've tried quite a few of them, Norton a paid for one I had tons of hassle with, Bulldog was OK (a bit yappy) But I've had the AVG one now for more than a year, and it's been great, even put a few pals onto it, and they have had no problems at all. Jacqui

Jacqui I was using Macafee, but after the subscribtion ran out I went back to AVG, I've used it in the past and found it to be great! Plus it's free! ;D I also have AVG's free spyware programme.

I originally had AVG free version, then I paid for the licenced version (around £23 for 2 years), when it came up for renewal I got a 50% discount (£11.50 for 2 years). My computer crashed & I had to have Windows re-installed & the guy who did it put the free version of AVG back on. This was just 2 weeks before it was due for renewal & I would have missed out on the discount. I contacted Grisoft, who make AVG, & they were so helpful. They not only renewed at the discounted price, they gave back the 2 weeks I would have lost. In doing this, they rang me several times to make sure everything was working properly, & that I was happy. All this customer care AND an excellent product.

I noticed a few of you are using AVG anti virus, can you tell me if you have a Virus in the Vault, is it OK just to delete it, is that safe, can it still infect your computer from there?

Jacqui When an antivirus places a virus in a vault (in thoery a locked folder with no read/write/execute command) it is removed out of the operations of the system, therefore it is SAFE to delete it, provided that your A/V gives you the option to do so from the software. to just go into the folder and delete it would be unsafe, as "User Intervention" can sometimes re-trigger the virus. once deleted, empty your recycle bin, restart computer, and run a full scan of system (ALL DRIVES) just to safeguard complete removal i seriously gotta get a hobby haha
