Let us know what your preferred instrument is, the one that you take and play on gigs. You can only choose one.... We know that you may play many different instruments, but we only want your preferred instrument. This poll is just for fun. Please enter your choice above.

I play a Fender Telecoustic. The most FAQ at gigs is; "Is that an electric or acoustic guitar?" It's a thin-line acoustic with a Tele neck and body shape and a 6 part piezo pickup. It sounds good when I'm picking or strumming and rocks through effects without the usual feedback associated with acoustics through pedals. My other favourite guitar is an Ibanez strat-copy but I seldom use it live these days.

Geez, I haven't done a gig in six months! I don't think I qualify to vote (lol). When I do gig I play electric guitar, which one depends on the gig, the big rock band gigs the "Formentin" strat copy gets the nod (Rob Formentin is a local guitar builder and a nice bloke to boot). I've modded it a bit with some duncun pick-ups and a hipshot floating bridge. Then of course the tele gets the nod for all the non standard tunings and lastly (well for gigs anyway) I have a nice "Maton" acoustic made back in '84 which is an FG100 (never seen another one around actually). Really nice warm woody tone that one.

I normally play a 50/50 mix of guitar and keyboard. I love the acoustic guitar as you can walk amongst the audience and get them more involved. Regards mark

The few times I still gig, I stick to keys. No use scaring the audience, as I can't carry a tune on vocals. Don't know if it's true, but I've heard that we keyboardists are all frustrated drummers.

Like Moonie I'm "resting" whilst I'm here in the U.K. When I am working in Cyprus I always play the first set live on my Technics KN3000 keyboard (usually whilst people are dining) once the food's out the way I crank it up a bit and use midi file backing which the Technics reproduces very well. Looking forward to getting back to Cyprus at the end of Feb for the next season.

I used to take my old Technics C300 organ out on gigs as my instrument of choice. At the time of buying it (1989), it was the best I could(n't) afford, but over the years it paid for itself many times over until I stopped playing a few years ago. In 1989, there weren't many self-contained keyboards around...no midifiles, it was all backing tapes. So I employed a bit of both. I used the organ because, for its time, it really was transportable, whereas nowadays, my K1 weighs about the weight of a bag of sugar and has the sound of just about any instrument I could think of. How times change. Anyhow my instrument of choice was organ (keys) back then. Bri

Fender Strat Plus!!! Hipshot tremsetter so the bridge dont lift on country bends and when i do use the whammy it always returns to the same spot,LSR roller nut and locking machine heads help out too! Had a wee capasitor yoke/thingy fitted so the tone remains the some all the way from 1to10. Great guitar, tried them all,Gibson,PRS,Levinson, but find strats the most versitile if ya play a wide range of stuf and best value for money. Used Mesa Boogie during my band days, theyre hard to beat, bit expensive tho and HEAVY for all the size of them, but nowadays with doing the one man show i just use the strat thru my allen+heath mixer via a Boss GT3,took a bitta time gettin used to but with a bitta tweakin its not bad atall! Handy tip for anyone fed up luggin their Twin Reverb or Rectofier around,if your buying a multi fx,have your guitar amp set up beside the PA speaker when programming your settings on the multi fx,get the clean and dirty sounds as close to what you'd usually use on your amp,it wont be perfect but with a good ear and a bitta trial+error it can work wonders and saves the old back a bitta hardship! Well, thats my instrument and a bitta info on my setup, hope its of intrest to someome out there! Oh,hope i havnt offended any Gibson,PRS or levinson heads,FANTASTIC GUITARS,im just a Fender man,no harm or malice ment atall atall! Gooney!

Some question this! Started out on a Vox Rangemaster guitar years back. it was the smallest guitar you could imagine. It didn't have a standard jack socket 'cos it would have come through the other side!! Seriously. I eventually fixed one on and it protruded above the body. Crazy. it got me started though. I threw it in the bin many years later...bad move! Probably worth a few bob now. Why do we do these things? Got a bit serious after that and took the usual route of Fenders. Jaguar and Strat. Still have a Strat, but it's not seen the light of day for a good while....no, it's not going in the bin! Played Bass for years and years with a Fender Precision, then got into keyboards and for the last twelve years or so I've been using Roland stuff. I used to take my guitar to gigs with the keyboard, but as usual, laziness reared it's head and decided that one instument was enough to set up. No good on keyboards really...just thump the chords out whilst I'm singing! Being a one man band outfit gets pretty lonely over here, though I do mamage a few live gigs with other muso's around the Christmas period. It's weird playing with a drummer after all this time, especially when you notice that slight off beat after a majestic roll around the kit!!! Can't beat it...excuse that pun! Used to,blame other members of the group when you had a bad night...now I just blame my equipment!!! SAD Cheers, Rossi

Hey guys, For me, gig night usually require two keyboards, one amp and a couple of assorted stands, pedals and cables. The Yamaha EX-5 fills my needs for piano, horns, strings and other timbres and I use an Oberheim OB3 (2) with a Dynacord (CLS222) leslie simulator to come close to the Hammond sounds. I rotate between a Roland 500 amp and a Peavey KB300. I am generally well served by this setup wishing only to upgrade to a Roland VK8 for the superior Hammond drawbars.

A cheap (D-10 about $200 US) Washburn Acoustic outfitted w/Seymour Duncan "tube- style" soundhole pickup and Elixr Phosphor Bronze strings (nanoweb) in Light Guage. It sounds pretty good and I don't worry about it gettin' dinged up at gigs or if the occasional larger should spill on it.

I use an Ovation electro acoustic guitar through the PA. Find it give a good blend to the midi files.

I have a Yamaha PSR 3000 and simply love it. Its got a smartcard so I dont have the hassles with the floppies . Its got a USB port and its really super.I used to play the guitar - an old Hofner but I cant play guitar anymore, my fingers being quite numb. Guess I'll always carry my keyboard and sing ! Singing is my forte and means everything to me
