Hey Guys, I am just curious about the guys who say they play guitar along with the midi. How do you guys play the midi? Do you have someone else play the keyboard or do you have a midi player which plays along with you? I am asking you 'cause I play solo just with my keyboard. I have a fender strat and an Ibanez semi accoustic guitar, which I dont use for my perfomance, as I feel awkward playing my guitar, with my keyboard playing by itself on midi. But whatever said, I love to play my guitar along with the songs, But what to do? I feel embarrassed to play like that. Can you guys give me some opinion. Eljoe

I have a Kurzweil K2500XS (sounds like it should have a V8 turbo and quad exhausts, no? :-) ). It's an 88-key weighted keyboard with just about the best sound generator around, even though it's 1993 technology. It's meant to be a studio instrument but with good help I can get it to performances. My other studio instrument of choice is a QWERTY keyboard and mouse :-;. For our group, good MIDIs sequenced well and tweaked to suit our arrangements work best and best of all they're repeatable. Where do I find good midis? Right here, of course!

Carlo Robelli CRB1955 CR is my current tool of the trade - fantastic all round sound and a real eye catcher and talking point - no longer in production, it seems. Great for that true rockabilly look and feel!! Rockabilly

I've played the Fender Precision Bass guitar for about 30 years now. It's the only axe that has the real feel of a bass guitar. I've tried many, but they just don't cut it.

Hi Guys, I used to play Bass Guitar.... so now I am a lousy keyboard player, in fact my Korg PA1x is better used to play midi files from this site to hide my limited singing voice. But I still have fun! G.

Not really actively gigging right now, but when I do, I use a '69 ES 335, and an Epiphone acoustic I bought in the mid '70s. I'm also still using my old '67 Silvertone twin 12 tube amp.
Guess I'm showing my age huh?

I voted Bass as I will start using it at gigs soon (when we get the next one), but my voice is my primary area of competence. I'm also a viola student, but that's just a bit of escapist therapy.

Hello all.
Trained as a classical pianist but went on to saxophone and became a semi pro on the mecca ballroom circuit . When big bands went out of vogue for Saturday evening dances i went back to my roots and went back onto keyboards. Now with my korg PA1X and a good vocalist we are still getting bums off seats every Saturday night playing 50's 60's and 70's.
All the best for now guy's and gals

The human voice is indeed an instrument. Wording for "none, I just sing" would have been better if it was worded as "vocals". 'Just' implies being less that something else, in this case, being less of a musician than an instrumentalist is. Would you say that Ella just sings? What about Ol' Blue Eyes? Imagine poor old Pavarotti behind a Xylophone!! LOL Needless to say, my main instrument is my voice, but I ain't a gonna click that 'just' button! Nope, LOL Quite right JazzCat. "just sings" INDEED! If I ever told my partner that she "just sings" I'd expect to get my head bitten off and quite rightly too. Given the amount of time she spends exercising her voice, scales and arpeggios, high Cs and up. She's singing in her first pro concert this Christmas and the effort she puts in just practising is staggering. She perspires more than I do playing woodwinds. Whoever wrote that deserves a good bonk on the beak! (just joking, really!) Just my tuppennyworth, JohnG.

Hi Everyone! I am a keyboard player and a vocalist..I am a proud owner of the new Yamaha PSR 900!It is a great keyboard..it has the best guitar sounds I have heard on a keyboard and also it has many other great sounds..I had been singing for about 18 years as a semi=pro and now the last 8 years or so I hve been singing professionally, except for the past 4 years I have been playing with a keyboard! With all the great sounds you can get out of the Yamahas it's like being a one man band..I also love the vocalizer in my keyboard that actually let's me harmonize with myself! Whatever instrument you play have fun with it!......Violet Songbird

I have not voted in this poll for a reason. I feel "None, I just sing" is bordering on insulting to those who use their voice as their instrument. and would be better worded if "Vocals" would have been used alone.
The word "just" implies being less that something else, in this case, being less of a musician than an instrumentalist is. Would you say that Ella Fitzgerald just sings? What about Bobby McFerrin or Al Jarreau? How about Ol' Blue Eyes? Imagine poor old Pavarotti behind a Xylophone! LOL!!
It may be true that many vocalists have a minimal of theoretical musical training but then the same can be said for many instrumentalists.
