Have you ever played at a Wedding and noticed that while the Wine and Cake are being given to all the guests, they forget the Band ? When the toasts are raised, the guests stand on their feet and raise their glasses, while the poor neglected Band stand up to raise their thumbs !!! Pity especially when the Band is so important at the occassion, second only to the wedded couple !! Have any of you suffered such a faux pas ? C H E E R S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Warm regards Shyam

It happens, that's for sure. But fortunately not all the time. Occasionally the band will be allowed to raise a glass in salute to the new couple, which has only happened to me the once and this was because I gigged at my sister's wedding. It was a great day all round and the music was even exceptional Usually though the poor band, an integral part of the proceedings, as Shyam correctly points out, is left out of such moments.

But they always remember the band when they want to make an annoucement or a toast everyone can hear - then they'll come running up, grab the closest mic and feedback the whole place.
Remember, when it comes to wedding dances, the first two hours are for the OLD PEOPLE!

I refuse to play weddings! I hate weddings. Playing at them, that is. Every Tom, thingy and Harriet want to get in on the act. And once they're on the stage their relatives start roaring for more as soon as they finish a song. One time I had to endure about ten versions of Friends in low places. Put me off the song for life. Almost.

The real problem with playing at weddings is that you can't escape the relatives! You always get some relation who has Great Musical Talent who has to get up on stage with you and try to perform.
Though it wasn't nice to do, my band would usually either speed the requested song up to about double speed or change the key to one only an operatic performer could reach. Sometimes we'd keep going past the end of the song, too, so the "performer" had to keep going.
I know, I know, childish... but I still smile at the thought of petty revenge.

And what about the little kids tearing all over the dance floor in the middle of one of your best ballads. I love kids but couldn't manage a whole one at this time in the morning!

I cant believe this !!!!!!!!!!! The scenario is the same ALL OVER THE WORLD !!!!!! Gosh this is amazing. We musicians are of the same breed, facing the same rubbishpy stuff at these wedding , the relatives and friends wanting to jam in , the kiddos running around and skidding on the dance floors, Hey guys tell me about this "tradition" ----- when the band plays to the guests, before the actual ceremony begins(the arrival of the wedded couple, the blessing of the cake, the cutting of the cake, the toasts etc etc ) why is that no one claps for the band ?? The clapping only starts after the Grand March and after the couple's first dance. After that, its claps all around and the party really takes off afterthat. Is it rude to clap before the the ceremonies begin ? It beats me . I think I'll stop playing at weddings too like steptoe and Pat. Not really worth our while I t would be nice to hear the views of others. In the meanwhile, lets raise a toast to us musicians ........... C H E E R S !!!!!! (glub glub)
