Hi all Can I ask, what does everyone out there think of X Factor? I was sitting watching it on Sat nite, in front of the fire, with me furry slippers and dressing gown on and with a blanket draped over me knees and a glass of hot toddy in me mitts. Personally, I think that that Leona has a fabulous voice but very little else to offer at this stage ie. no personality, no stage presence. No doubt the "suits" will get to her if (when?) she wins and make her look as silly as all the boy bands and solo acts with a penchant for formation dancing. Or will they? I've noticed that the winners seem to make one - maybe two - records and then they disappear into the great void, never to be seen or heard from again On the other hand, although Ray hasn't got the best voice (Leona has that), he's still a very good singer and what a personality and presence!! I know he seems to have been around the block, apparently having done Brookside and turning down a musical to appear in X Factor, but to me he's just so much better than any of the others. He has, dare I say it, the REAL X FACTOR!!!! If he doesn't win, he'll still make it, 'cos he's just got what it takes, but if he doesn't win, there's no justice. Rant over with. Cheers everyone Bri

Hi ya bri i ,ve just tuned in to yer post after reading & listening to Damien Leith ( thanks to Guilty) the one thing i,ll say about the X factor show, fair play to all those (especially the young people ) who put themselves up to be judged , good or bad , in front of millions of viewers (us included ) who travel the lenght & breath of their country ( with all the help of their parents/ parent ) in the hope that it,s their time , the sad fact is the shows are ,nt devised to find talent, X Factor is now worldwide, it,s there to make money , its there to make good tv and sadly that means the worst get thru to the next rounds, the oddballs , the out of tuners , dress up as Elvis put an inflatable shark under yer arm and i,ll bet ye yer on TV , but thats good TV , (Try dressing as Bob Dylan and a blow up doll yer on Crime Watch ..but any way but thats in the hands of my solicitor ) i know frum the other show POP IDOL , a local lad ( Belfast ) was on ( great singer ) he cried & phoned his mother during the show the only thing that was seen on TV was his tears and phone call, it took him almost 3 years to be listened to when singing anywhere , cos thats what people remembered , so as long as the show lasts it doe,snt matter if the acts last , Lemar & will young both" losers " are still going strong they are the exceptions , i hope we can see a few more but somehow i don,t think so, and i have to say every other country supports the winners it,s only here ( tabliods ) that as soon as yer up they want ye ta fall , so again fair play to all who take part , congatulations to young Damien , and remember if Simon Cowell was a member of Midimart the wud we all be so willing to post to the members stage

On occasions people have said why dont I apply to X factor. My answer is that they are not necessarily looking for great singers. They are looking for the whole package good looks, great figure, big personality. Okay! I've got all that but i still wouldn't apply(Joke ! ) No one lasts that comes from the show. Most of the singers/musicians on the forum have worked all there lives in music because they love it. The X factor contestants have usually come from singing in the bath(Great Accoustics).Wheres Steve Brookstein now?I have just listened to Damien Leith and he has a great stage presence and I think he's long stay. You can see he loves to sing and that I think is what makes great Musicians.
Regards Mark

C'mon people, do me a favour. It's a fixed show from day one. All the contestants would be at home in a Blackpool Revue, or maybe Butlin's, even the odd working men's club. Could maybe find them the odd job in Benidorm. The X Factor today is found in the Hip Hop, Rap and Indie Bands and entertainers of today. Not my cup of tea, don't like it, but it's what sells and it's not what an old fart like me gives a nuts about. Music thrives on what is new, Cowell thrives and gets rich on what he tells people is good and new. Not always good advice, it's what makes him money!

For entertainment value I give it 10/10 If we're talking about a serious attempt to help the new artists and give them an appropriate world platform to shine then I have mixed feelings. No one can deny the talents of the likes of Shane Ward or Kelly Clarkson but there are those - in my view - who do not deserve their five minutes of fame. But my view really doesn't count for much in the grand scheme of things but there millions of the younger people who really love this format and relish any opportunity to gain some publicity to aid their cause. Good luck to them. Not everyone can become famous, not everyone who is famous, deserves to be, but sure that's life. In the end it's all about what you like or dislike. Bit like art, really. To some of us the Mona Lisa is nothing special, to others it is the epitome of renaissance Italy. Give something enough hype and there's always a few million who will buy into it - literally

Hi all Well, I was wrong. I admit it. I saw Leona sing the winner's song on the final and Jayzus. What one heck of a voice (but I'd already said that on my original post). I've just downloaded it from blueyonder - today's main headline, and it's even better than she sang on the show...and I thought THAT was unbelievable. The question is, will she be around for long? Possibly, even probably, not; but I like to think she will. She deserves it, singing like that. I still think Ray was the one with the X Factor though. Merry Christmas everyone Bri
