You probably noticed Geraint had a posting recently for George Formby songs. I've listened to his lovely amazing deep voice covering songs like Old Man River on the site, and I find it fascinating to imagine what he will sound like singing George Formby! When I'm cleaning Windows or Leaning on A Lampost. I'm sure your more than capable Geraint, but what a contrast. Hats off to you Jacqui

Well, he is a man of many talents and probably sounds terrific Incidentally, Geraint is taking a break for a week or so with his wife and kids. I wonder if he's taking his eukalaly with him ;D

I will record a George Formby song and post it on the forum shortly. Incidentally, had a great holiday, and my ukelele came in quite handy. I also had to lean on quite a few lamposts late in the evenings to stop myself from falling over.

Now this is something I am extremely looking forward to. Some people forget just how inspirational George Formby was to many entertainers and musicians around the world. A most remarkable individual, the likes of whom we may never see again. Good on you, Geraint. Incidentally, wasn't the ukelele invented in Hawaii? Not 100 percent sure about this, just something I heard many years ago. Responses on a postcard please. The postcard reference is to do with the fact that Geraint has just returned from holiday

I think you're right about the origin of the ukelele, but George Formby actually played (as I do) an ukelele banjo. So much you can learn on this forum isn't there.

However it is played it is a truly wonderful instrument that is sadly not used as much these days as it was in the time of the fabulous George Formby. Well done to you young Geraint for reminding us of this beautifully sounding instrument.
When I used to live in London I remember hearing about a George Formby Convention, I think it was held in Brighton. An annual event that attracted hundreds of people, if not thousands, from various parts of the world.
Does anybody know if this is still going on?

There is still a convention, but I think it is held in Blackpool.
