Hi weeo,
Try; Control Panel - Settings - Sounds & Audio Devices - Click the Advanced Tag of the Device Volume. Check that all your volumes are up. Very straight forward, but you may find that some are either muted or turned down. Happened to me a few months ago.
Hope it helps,
Murph

Yupp as murph sez click vol control then options select PROPERTIES then recording you will see a list of audio option boxes make sure the line in box is ticked then click ok you will then get a mixer type window with recording control tick the line in box that will select the signal from your minidisc to pc. i dont take lead from headphone to pc i use to use the line out on minidisc to line in on pc but the sound card i have has digital in/out so i use a spdif cable now hope that helps Also if you have a laptop most of them now the line in and mic input are the same

I had a visit from the son-in-law yesterday and it turns out that the version of "nero" that i have is only for burning cd's.He is coming up tomorrow with the proper software that i need and hopefully that will sort me out----only my head left to sort out. Thanks for all your help again--regards--weeo

You should be able to use the Windows 'Sound Recorder" to record from an outside source such as in your case a mini disc player. Sound Recorder is part of Windows you can find it here: START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>ENTERTAINMENT>SOUND RECORDER

Thats unusual, I'm using Windows XP as well and mine has a Sound Recorder. Hopefully maybe someone else can pipe in and shed some light...

ok, let's get over this for once and for all.
FEW SIMPLE STEPS:
1: Click START-ALL PROGRAMS-ACCESORIES-ENTERTAINMENT-VOLUME CONTROL; Select Properties/ Adjust Sound for Recording (Line In) LEAVE THE WINDOW OPEN!!!!!
2; click START-RUN and type sndrec32.exe this will open up sound recorder wherever it's installed
check you can hear the minidisc being played through the PC before you start and once your happy, hit record and hey presto!!!
Takes a true IT tech to sort these issues out guys!!!
Just to add to this. i use Sony Sound Forge to create all my MP3's and it works a charm. i can gladly offer a unused licence to whoever needs it. as my version is a multi licence version (100 licences) but i only need 2, one for my studio and one for my laptop
