Hey guys,
Anybody using Powertracks Pro Audio software for sequence editing? My problem is that changes I make to the files while in Powertracks are not being saved...even when I hit "yes" to overwrite the song (file) or file on the disk (assuming they're meaning the hard drive). Also, any volume changes I make have to be done by velocity changes. I can hear the changes I'm making, but when I attempt to save these changes, exit the software, and play the file using Vanbasco, no changes have been made. Like I eluded to in earlier threads, I'm primarily a live midi performer, but as I am starting to realize, I lack midi recording skills...for that matter, any recording skills...LOL. So, if there's anybody out there who can guide me inthe right direction with Powertracks or direct me to a better...more user friendly software...please help! Thanks

Hey Charlie, Sounds odd to me. There are a couple of things I can suggest; are you definitely saving as .MID files rather than Power Tracks' .SEQ default format. Use "Save as" on the file menu rather than "save". ( I know this is pretty basic but you might have a bunch of .seq files somewhere which contain all your changes!!!) Volume changes are made with controller#7 but you'll have to check the event list to make sure that you don't have other (later) volume settings or system exclusive commands over-riding the changes you make. The other things is to check through your Preferences in Options and make sure you have it set correctly to save mixer settings etc. There are a few easier programs out there, the Jazz Midi Sequencer, recommended by Glenn is one that I like. Check out Glenn's link; midimart.proboards56.com/index.cgi?board=links&action=display&thread=1130417732I use PT quite a bit. especially for midi + audio so let me know if you need any further help with that. Cheers, Dave

Hey Gibbo,
You are right on with the "save as" function. I was just saving to the .SEQ default format, and I probably do have tons of edited .SEQ files somewhere. How would I find them?...or is it worth the hassle? Currently, I'm trying to make changes such as volume, patches, and pitch from the Tracks display. I can make these changes but they are not being saved, I assume because I didnt save as .mid. The way I make volume changes is by grabbing the slider (fader) and move it to where it sounds best to me. But as soon as the sequence stops, all changes revert back to the original settings. I hope I dont sound too elementary about this, but like I said I'm primarily a live midi performer. I do admit I need to educate myself about this software and midi recording as a whole. But again, thanks for the info and support.

Hey Charlie, That's what I thought... I did it too for a while! You can find them easily enough by using the windows search function, just get it to scan your C drive for .SEQ files. They'll be in your PT default folder so just look in preferences and you'll see where they're saved. As far as moving the faders to change the volumes, it won't work unless you enable the little red button on the mixer panel that says "record only mixer moves". This is for recording changes you make to the sequence as it plays and should work for you, I've never tried it though. The simplest method is to change the volumes, pan, chorus, reverb etc in the tracks window. That will work if there are no later controller events in the track. If so you can delete the later events (or simply set them to the values you've decided on). This is why some changes are saved and others apparently not. There's a later event in the track over-riding the changes you made. Open the event editor ("E")and you'll see all the events in any given track. Keep working with it, mate. it gets very intuitive once you use it enough. Cheers, Dave

Hey Dave,
Really appreciate this info. I've been wanting to use Power Tracks for advanced editing but was stuck with just the basics of operation. The tutorial seemed to me that a lot of assumptions were made on the part of the reader, or maybe I'm just that dumb....havent quite figured that one out yet....lol. Anyway, gonna take your advice and get deeper into PT. I believe once I start using it on a daily basis, something's gonna click...and I'll be on my way. Thanks for opening the door for me.....

Hi, Check out the BIAB Forum, this is the same company as Powertracks and may have users there or their own forum.
In Biab when you alter songs there are buttons to press that will save all program and volume/panning etc. changes as the sequenced song and should remain that way, for you to reload and tweak again.
When you save the sequence as a midi file it should only save what changes you have made in the program as long as you save as midi before reloading the original file, if that makes sense, best advice is always save your changes regularly and maybe keep original raw file as a reference point just in case.
Regards, G.
