I have a couple of spare hard drives (20gb and 30gb) and I use a Gem WK2 midi arranger to play my midis when I'm gigging, all from floppy, does anyone know if I can easily fit one of these hard drives or do I need a special hard drive from Gem? All replies greatly appreciated

Hi Paddy - Not familiar with the unit but I looked up the technical specs and it uses a 2.5" eide hard disk. This appears to be a standard notebook hard-drive. The two obstacles as I see it are the BIOS (Basic Inout/Output System - computer talk)and format type. Check that the drive will physically fit first (notebook 2.5"). If so, I would then 'mirror' the data from the old drive to the new one (This will ensure that any information required for the Gem unit to recognise the drive is there). The original drive of 20GB would mean that the BIOS should recognise another hard drive at least to 30GB without any problem - but it is possible that this is the threshold for the size (a 32GB level is reached on early computer BIOS's). If you have a 40GB drive, it will not cause any damage but may not be recognised. Hope this assists
