Hi rcrudup. All you need is a midi cable link - you can get these in many forms USB - Serial. The USB connection is a good one and two MIDI leads (obtainable from all good music/computer outlets) Try Dolphin Music and look at the Edirol UM1X this one is all-in-one (you don't have to buy anything else). All you need is MIDI in and MIDI out. Download the Jazz Sequencer tell the sequencer your MIDI in (Keyboard) and MIDI out USB. (You must have a keyboard with MIDI in & out) In this setup you can play directly into the computer and record your midi key stokes via the sequencer, once you are happy - you can then play back via the sequencer into the keyboard. If your not happy with the outcome you can always edit the recorded piece on the sequencer. Alter notes, cut paste, delete etc. Hope this helps!

You can also do it through a 5 pin DINN connector, depending on your soundcard. On one older system I had, I connected through the joystick port. If using DINN/DINN, make sure you connect MIDI out on your keyboard to MIDI in on your computer, and MIDI out on your computer to MIDI in on your keyboard. That is the most common mistake I have seen in hooking them up.

Hi.
I use the Edirol UM1X to connect my keyboard to the PC, if correctly connected (see Midimax above), you can play in live and record it. I think this (midi cables) is the only way to do this, I know no other way.

Hi Rcrudup There are other ways of connecting you k/board to PC via midi by using a FIRE-WIRE USB interface. The fuction of a fire-wire is similar to your internal sound card on your PC but with extra functions. All fire-wire units come with midi ports I/O and anologe inputs/outputs this enables you to convert anologe signal into digital (WAV) using midi to play your k/board and any other midi instruments ie drum machines, sound modules etc. Most fire-wire modules come with a seqencing package (mine came with Cubase LE) Prices start from @ £150.00 to £850.00 the more expencive range gives more inputs/outputs, aux sends. optical links, digital clocks etc. I purchased my fire-wire from Sound Control in Manchester they have branches throughtout the UK great staff very helpfull also worth checking out there web site have a range of fire-wire's with technical info. I hope this is of help to you Good luck ceedcorp
