Hi Everyone Quite a few foreigners who haven't visited India believe that elephants and tigers can be seen on our roads. Some have even believed that tigers are seen on our roads !!!!! I wish we could see tigers in our forests - their population is fast dwindling and they might just become extinct !! Yes we do see an occassional elephant in our temple towns and there are a few sacred cows roaming around, but things are changing and our roads are becoming broader and cleaner. Our highways are really good now and can be compared to most express ways in other western countries. Our family has just returned after a three day visit to Chennai (Madras) and I attach these photographs so you can see what I mean.

Hey Shyam, the area in your photos looks so much like a large portion of Southern California is almost scary!

Hi Shyam, Thanks for sharing such beauty... Now I'm curious of speed limits in countries. Mostly our maximum speed limit in most parts of Australia is 100 kph (approx 60 mph) although some areas are 110kph. Cheers Lyn

Gee Shyam, I'd have to remember to snap some photos when I head into an area that is similar. Unfortunately a huge amount of the beauty of Southern California is now mostly is covered in asphalt and concrete.
Speed limits in the US vary from state to state. For a long time the speed limit nationally was 55 MPH. When they repealed that, states could set their own. In Calif the max is 75 MPH out in more remote areas. In Montana, during the daytime and out on the open highway, there really was no speed limit but, at night, that was completely different and the fines were exceptionally heavy for speeding after dark. I am not sure if that is still in effect there or not.

Here in a very wet Deutschland where the Autobahn isn't specifically restricted for volume of traffic reasons or busy interchanges, we have no speed limit. Yes, the sky's the limit! I have once had liittle ole JGmobile up to about 200kph. An oldish BMW 525td. (downhill with a tail wind). At that speed I was overtaken fairly rapidly by a Mercedes sports car, a something or other 500! ZOOOOooooom!
To see people doing in excess of 160kph (100mph) is common. But mostly we are limited to around 130kph (80mph), and that is just fine for me.

I'm not very sure but I think the speed limit is 80 KPH, but we were doing 130 - 140 Kph . No cops worried us, so U'm not really sure what the official limit is. The poor Lorry drivers were seen driving at around 20 KPH, woth their heavy loads. Can't imagine the plight of that lot. We still have a long way to go to meet the safety standards of other countries. Its not uncommon to see a tractor coming at you on the wrong side of the road . Un nerving to say the least.
