February 3rd 1959
Buddy Holly died on this date 50 years ago and to this day his music is as fresh as it was when it first was released.
Born Charles Hardin Holley on September 7th 1936 that made him 23 when he died, but during that short space of time he created a legacy that only the true greats can aspire too,he was the voice of a nation. His career only lasted about 18 months when he boarded the plane at Clear lake Iowa. The plane took off at about 12.05am but crashed a few minutes later, also in the plane with Buddy Holly was `the big bopper` and Richie Valens. Goodnight Buddy Holly as Don McLean said it was the day the music died, but the legacy and the music has survived
Sleep well Buddy

Buddy Holly is probably the biggest influence on my singing career. His music covered rockabilly through rock n roll, to ballads. He was way ahead of his time and also a major influence on the Beatles. I am going to the anniversary show in London on Friday night at the theatre which promises to be a great evening. I hope his music is still being played in 50 more years time. Real talent never dies it just continues in a different form.

"The day the music died. So I'm singing bye bye ... " Remembered with great affection. I still play your LPs. "Ah well I guess it doesn't matter anymore." RIP Buddy. JohnG.

You gotta give credit to the best of them when they're gone.
