Blood in the water: Police at the scene of the shark attack (ABC)
• Map: Port Kennedy 6172
Police and emergency services are continuing to search for a 51-year-old man who was attacked by a shark at a beach south of Perth this morning.
The attack happened as the man snorkelled with his 24-year-old son at Port Kennedy at about 7:00am.
The victim was just six metres from the beach when he was taken and his son, who was some distance away, yelled for witnesses to get help. At least one witness reported seeing blood in the water.
Police and emergency service boats and helicopters continue to search the water and a large shark has been spotted in the area.
The victim is a local man who works in the banking industry and often swims at the beach. His family have requested that the shark is not hunted and destroyed.
Police have asked the public to stay away from the beach and are warning people in the Perth metropolitan area to exercise caution when swimming in the ocean.
Police have closed the beach near Cote D'Azur Gardens, and volunteer sea rescue and about 10 private vessels are scouring the area for the missing man.
A rescue helicopter has also been sent to the scene.
