Video to DVD conversion

Hi all
Has anyone any experience of any of the packages out there for converting video to dvd via a PC. I have seen various ones ranging from £20 up to £60. If any members have used these I would appreciate any feedback before I part with any of my 2 1/2 per cent VAT saving accumilation granted to me by Mr Brown and Darling.

what format are you wanting to convert avi divx xvid mpg i used to do a lot of converting using different progs but not so much now. Anyway the prog i am using at the moment for simplicity is called winavi this will convert most of your movies if not all and make them into a dvd ie vob files then burn to dvd. The only prob i have found with winavi is if you encode say a xvid movie it will encode with the same screen ratio as the xvid and if you put it into another dvd prog it might say error this is not a correct dvd format because of the wrong ratio. but its a easy prog to use load in your movie select you want to make a dvd select if you want chapters and put in the time you want for the chapters ie every 5 mins you can select auto on the encoding side for the quality this is hit n miss if you select the best quality it might go over the normal 4.36 gig a dvd is so youll have to compress it a bit more(unless you have dual layer discs) by either redoing the movie with the next best quality setting or keep the original and use a prog called dvd shrink which will take the size down abit. you might need codecs ie mpeg ac3 blah blah. theres a few free codec pack out ones called klite think theres one called xpcodec but klite will give you all the codecs you need hope this helps a little also win avi is fast on my P4 2.4 ghz it takes about 60 mins to make the dvd on my laptop which is a core2 duo 7600 it only takes abote 20 mins www.winavi.com/en/download/download.htm
