Hey guys, I received an E-mail a couple of days ago from Tran Whitley of Trantracks. Some of you may already know of Trantracks. They produce some of the finest midis available. No, they're not free...but in my opinion...well worth the money. Anyway, he has assembled a "live" midi setup that is both extremely powerful and versatile and yet very cost effective. The system includes the laptop, sound module,Cakewalk,Win Media Player,Vanbasco,USB jump drive, cables, etc all for $750 plus $30 for shipping in the US. Overseas shipping I'm sure would be additional, but I dont know how much. If you would like more info on this, just E-mail him at tran@trantracks.com or visit the website www.trantracks.com. From all that I heard the system could do, it sounds pretty impressive. Might wanna check it out.... Charlie

Personally, I like Tran and know his files are well done. I especially love the AS series, by Shahe Sinanoglu.
The system he had for sale, however, is far from what I'd want, although someone just starting out might be impressed with it.
I got that email too and so, just for kicks, I went to check it out back then. The laptop was a very outdated minimalistic old computer with a Windows 98 system. The sound module was a Roland Sound Canvas soft synth. The Cakewalk version was something like 3.0. VanBasco is free, and Windows Media Player comes on all Windows systems. USB flash drives are cheap as can be, and so are cables. Due to all of this, I thought the price he was asking was a bit over the top. Although that offer was available back in November, it appears it no longer is.

Thanks Jazzcat for chiming in... yeah, it's true. The laptop is a Compaq Armada 1750 running Win98SE, but it's what I've been Showplay with now for almost 5 years without too much trouble. (ran Scandisk once and it locked up the laptop, but I eventually fixed that) Now, Tran has got his Cakewalk and Sound Canvas combo...and both those are outdated, but functional. Judging from what I read here about other folks' setup, maybe this system is antiquated, but if anyone just starting out needed a system to get up and going...this system isn't too shabby....albeit somewhat pricey.
