I was in Publishers Book Clearance shop in Southport recently and I spied something of interest. Midi Software ! A cut down version of Logic. Actualy it is a Midi/Audio Sequencer with notation print capabilities. Called the Hit Kit it was originally released in 2003. It is version 6.1 of Logic. Although a lite version it has 8 audio track recording + 8 software instrument tracks by way of its built in synth and its built in sample player. The sample player can be loaded with Exs sample instruments or soundfonts. Also has 16 midi tracks. Supports GM/XG/GS. One cool thing for those looking to step up in editing capabilities is the low system requirements. On PC Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP 300mhz processor or faster On Mac OS 9.2 or higher OS X or higher 250 mhz G3 or faster On a Mac you need an outboard sound module for midi but on Windows the midi will play internally. Now this ain't the latest or greatest, however for the paltry sum of £5 I don't think you could even beat it with a stick. I have even seen it on ebay for £2.50. Original price was still a value at £25. Also a very cheap way for someone wanting to learn the basics of Logic. Here is a link for a downloadable pdf manual so you can check out all its features. www.dorlingkindersley-uk.co.uk/static/cs/uk/11/features/hitkit/manual.html
