Hey guys,
Well, after 26 years I finally bought a new guitar. It's a Mexican Fat Strat - Artic White w/ rosewood fingerboard. A beautiful guitar with a fast neck. Pickups are good...not great, but for less than $400....a really good axe for the money. The humbucker in the bridge position helps the sound in several ways. Number one, there's less buzzing and/or humming when used in out of phase position with the middle single coil. Number two, more "meat" to the sound in the lead position. I have used an Ibanez Strat with two humbuckers for all these years so I'm used to that thick sound a humbucker puts out. The whammy bar is functional, but not as good as the one on my Ibanez Blazer. The "bell tone" sound of a strat is a sound all it's own and one of the reasons I wanted a strat. This Mexican strat certainly has that sound. The front single coil is reminiscent of a Stevie Ray Vaughn blues tone which I love. All in all, money well spent in my opinion. I believe it will be a good gig guitar...dependable and versatile. I'm not one to let my guitars collect any dust. They're on the job making money. Also, I find that a new guitar will help stir up those emotions inside that made you want to play guitar in the first place. What's your thoughts about a Mexican Strat?
