Until recently, I was using a laptop (xp) with an external sound blaster card connected directly to my amp, and was having a great sound production. Unfortunately, that laptop has died, and I have purchased a new Acer laptop, which is using Vista.
I have managed to get the soundcard to work with it (finally) but am having horrendous electronic noises if I connect to my amp. I have tried coming directly out of the audio out of the laptop, but its still the same.
Any Ideas, please, or am I doing something fundamentally wrong, I'm really getting frustrated.
Thanks

Its a tricky one mate.....did you update the driver for the sound card to work with Vista? If you did'nt then here is a link, (assuming it is a Creative Soundcard). Pick the one you are using and click on it, which will bring you to a page about the latest downloads available for it. Judging on it working fine with XP, it has to be something to do with its compatibility to Vista i would of thought.....like i say, i am far from an expert mate but deducting the possibilities can narrow the problem down. support.creative.com/Products/Products.aspx?catid=1&catName=Sound+BlasterHope this helps.

Thanks again tubbs, I've done all of that. It makes the same terrible sounds either through the extwrnal souncard or if I just use the audio out direct from the laptop. I'm totally baffled by this one.
