Just wanna ask everybody how gigs are going .. can anybody see a decline in bookings because of ,No smoking , Credit Crunch , price of Drink going up from tammara ( tomorow ) Or is it just a N Irish thing ..I am seeing a big difference in wat the scene used ta be compared ta now..and the first casualty of this down turn will be entertainment ....e.g..why pay me ta play ta 20 punters when some of the 20 will put money in a duke box if i,m not there ...money is tight here at the minute people are staying in,, so sack the band seems ta be the order of the day,, put the TV on ,,mtv ,,VH1 ..IMHO it costs nought ta put the music channel on....is anybody else feeling / seeing the same
all the best fir nigh

Hi Cubb, I totally agree, there is a definite downturn, and it can only be down to all the factors which you have mentioned.
So many of my old venues have actually closed down, which is a terrible fact.

Same here. Things are much slower these days so sometimes you have to travel further and further to keep the diary full. The travelling isn't too bad until the end of the night and you have to head home, it's no fun driving when you're tired and weary - especially when you know you still have to get up early the following morning!

Sorry to hear 'bout the gigs Cubb. Can't say the same from my end though cause you know me, I'll play to oul' Nick if he'll pay. This week ,sorry to boast, I've 10 gigs on the books! Picking up more afternoon shows with a more mature audience who are really active with the Line and Sequence dancing. Call a few singers, finish for 5 or 6 and away home or to another gig for 9pm. Made a move into restaurants, where smoking never was an issue, playing a little piano bar, easy listening lift music. The upside of all this too is no pressure on the vocals! The word people is to diversify and try something different.

Nice to see you up and running again Cubb. I sort of cheated over the 10 gigs bit. I do have the gigs this week and I'm knocking my pan in. Its just I'm off on me hols next week and I managed to do a lot of swaps with other guys. They're covering my gigs when I'm away and asked me to cover some of their gigs this week. Sharon nearly divorced me. No probs with the swally, I'll drop you a line when I get back and arrange a meet. Maybe try to encourage Weegeo out of his corner!!
BTW I agree 100% with your concerns over the loss of traditional venues, it's so sad. Me, I can't do anything else. Couldn't hammer a nail into a wall!! So it's find the work or starve.

Hey Guys Well finding it the same here in London and the Home Counties, and it seems to be the same story from other acts too. I was over in Spain last week and it's even the dead over there, very quiet in the Bars, and not much entertainment generally, I actually got asked to cover a gig while I was there and turned it down, I never had all my disc's with me, and I don't think the boyfriend would have been too pleased as he spends most weekends on his own some while I'm out. I heard a rumour while I was there that Weegeo was counting his pennies, and not missing me a bit, so thought I should get home quick!! Jacqui ;D
