Hi I am looking to buy one of these units, the company I was about to buy from have just stopped selling them, simplysounds.co.uk Just wondering if anyone knows of any good retailers that stock them?
Jacqui Not sure if this is the right section, so will post it in the general midi section too.

Hi John Thanks for your reply, I had actually checked with that supplier Makingwaves, but they don't do them at the moment, as I have found with all the British Suppliers I have tried so far, looks like I'll be getting one from the US, I found a company on the net, and it turns out JazzCat knows them very well, and recommends them highly, so I trying to get in touch with them now to get one ordered today. Thanks for your help Jacqui

Hi Jacqui, Watch out for import duties and VAT added, Been there, done that. Been bitten. Also if you have problems, US warranty is no good in the UK. Your product becomes a "grey import". European warranties still work in the UK AFAIK. Even if not, postage to Germany isn't a bundle and no worries about import/export. Will the US 110 volt power pack work in the UK? NO! Do you know where you can get the UK one from? I don't. Be careful Jacqui, be very careful. I've had a shedload of stuff from Thomann and so far ... ;D They come up often as a good supplier in the UK magazine Sound on Sound. Their goods ship with a returns form but so far ... I do hope you see this in time. JohnG.

I've already mentioned the power supply problem to the guy she is dealing with here in the States. I also intend on contacting the former UK supplier to see if he has a solution to that problem.
I also copied your post to an e-mail to her, to make darned well she does see it. Being reminded of import taxes, warranty problems, etc might have her reconsidering.
Ketron is an Italian product. Is there a possibility she could order from there with less hassles?

Yes, JazzCat, Ketron comes from Europe so I wonder how many carbon miles the unit will pick up if she buys from the USA! She'd be better off buying from somewhere in Europe for the PSU as even a 220v one will work okay in the UK with the right pin adapter. I dare say the USA price is very attractive though at the moment.
I emailed her directly as well pointing out the above post to her.
I got a box a while back from Japan (110v) and the combination of VAT (19% in Germany and import duty 2% as I recall) on top of the price, made a bit of a dent in my finances, not to mention the hassle and wait and extra expense trying to find a PSU for it. Not to mention too the trip to the customs office the other side of Bonn, the wait, the forms to fill in, the wait, then the trip shlepping it back again.
When I later bought an SC-8850 I only looked in Europe. Okay both 2nd hand so no warranty issues. But it's an issue I'm very aware of now. The price would have to be VERY keen to make me do it again!
We live and learn! John. P.S. hope you got the 2 extra documents I sent you?

Hi John & Cat Thanks to both of you with your help and advise on buying this unit, and yes John have highlighted a lot of things I had not thought of and have to consider now, the voltage is a big concern as I have had some items from the US before, and they never worked, and had not realized there was tax to pay either, when I first started looking at the units, of course I started looking for the best price, but then it became more an issue of where I could actually buy a unit. I really would have preferred to buy in the UK, but so far I can't find anywhere with a unit in stock, I wish I could, it would probably be worth the extra cost for the peace of mind. I'll keep you posted Jacqui

I have had an SD2 for about 4 months now and have just discovered its first negative point. A fortnight before my first Xmas party I have just found out it has no sleigh bell sound. All my Xmas renditions this year are going to be done with a shaker sound instead of sleigh bells. Bad oversight Ketron, unless anyone out there can find the elusive Xmas sound.

Oh Dear Oliver That's almost a tragedy, no sleigh bells, but if anyone can help you it will be our very own Jazzcat, she has the answer to everything Midi & Ketron, send her an email. Depending on what kind of software you are using I think from my little knowledge that you might be able to input the sleigh bell sound from another sound patch, that's if you are not pulling our Christmas turkey legs! Power supply should not be a problem unless it is direct mains supply. There are usually transformers available for 1.2 vollts to 24volts. Just watch out for the amp rating requirements and always go higher. Polarity can be sorted with a soldering iron.

Jacqui Unfortunately i am not using software to drive the SD2 I am using a Roland Discover 5M. As for pulling Christmas turkey legs I assure you my wife wouldnt let me as she is a vegetatian. As for the tamborine suggestion thingyy, I think you may have a point especially if I detune the tamborine an octave or to. Anyone else have any other ideas. Thanks for all your help everyone. The Roland DisCover 5M has 1,422 tones ( instruments) & 44 drum kits of it's own. My suggestion is for you use sleighbells from it, if it has them.
I too was not a happy camper to find the Ketron SD2 does not have a sleigbells sound. I guess the Italians don't 'do' sleigbells. <smile>

The tambourine trick has been tried by detuning, and with added reverb it is just about passable. 'Sleigh bells ring are you listening' (not if you are Ketron) . Oliver101

Sleighbells is not a GM sound so, none of the companies that conform to the GM specs are required to include it.
