Hi
I'm curious. For those giggers out there who use CD or MP3's live, what do you use a the playback medium? Stand Alone cd player? laptop?
I think the D/A converters in stand alone players are better then the laptop, correct?
I recall a few years ago, before I got our sound module, I used Roland VSC to render midi to wav (after deleteing unwanted tracks) then I burnt to an audio CD. The stand alone cd playing was hooked straight into the L/R line in of our mixer and it sound great. We did not get that good a result when the laptop was used.

CD player for me every time. You're right about the DACs. Came across this one the other day "Gemini CDX-1200" it's a DJ deck with a RAM buffer. I've heard they've made a 1250 version with balanced XLR outs and supports a plugin mp3 playback too. Any comments anyone? snr is only 85dbA which is a little low perhaps. The question is, if it's for DJ work would you hear the noise for the noise? The 1200 is about a hundred quid haven't got a price on the 1250 yet. Here's a link: www.geminidj.com/cdx-1250.htmlJohnG. P.S. just seen they do a cdmp-1300 which takes a usb stick.
