Hi Tiny, Yes it's a 1980's USA Standard Strat but I had a Dave Gilmour EMG pickup/scratchplate conversion done on it soon after I moved to Cambridgeshire ... yes it's much loved but I have'nt really played much until recently and so it's kept in good nick! Wow ... do a colab/...sure,I'd love to ... hope I'm up to the mark! You can e-mail me (e-mail address comes up on 4shared.com's site when you download I notice) and talk me through how that would work ... like your playing a lot ... it would be an honour!! Best regards ... Rainbow:)

Hi Rainbow, Your home-studio setup looks great, mate. I wonder, does everyone else keep their studio space so neat and tidy? I have stuff spread everywhere. Apart from the actual music-gear and pc, I have discs, music, notepads, pens, pencils, half-finished lyrics, coffee cups, water bottles, tissues, chewing gum, chocolate, glasses, mics, post-it notes etc etc. No wonder the missus calls it "The Den of Iniquity" !!! Cheers, Dave.

G'day Gibbo ... I expect you have got all your gear in one room and can shut the door on it and by the sound of it you get a lot of work done ... good on yer mate. My little corner is in the front entrance of our small cottage with main entrance door, two other doors leading off and the stairs ... it's a bit like working in Heathrow Airport at times!! With all that and my wife and still got 2 daughters at home ... mate, I don't have a choice it's got to stay tidy!! LOL Tubbs thanks mate ... funny I used to sport a Lemmy set of whiskers at one time Cheers ... Rainbow:)

Right lads! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one then. Everytime I clean the place up it takes me ages to get it back into workable shape again. I think I've finally got it all re-arranged and Jen comes in a couple of days later and says something like, "It looks exactly the same to me!" Mind you, it works for me and I'm still churning out midis and songs on a weekly basis. BTW, I had forum-member, Steve, pop over for a bit of Cakewalk-ing the other day. He's a lovely bloke and not only that, he brought a cake! It was great just to have a fellow midi-maniac in the studio and we had a fine time just going through some of the Cakewalk editing functions. Cheers for now, Dave.

G'day Gibbo I've met Steve a couple of times at various gigs and as you say he is a lovely bloke. My home studio is in the garage so I can keep it as messy as I like and no one complains Trouble is it's like a sauna in the summer and a ice box in the winter Might get a portable aircon for next summer! Cheers John

Hi Gibbo, wish you were a little closer mate,i'd be knocking at your door with a truly homemade pineapple fruit cake ( the wifes special ) trouble is although we are in the same country being over the other side in Perth makes for slight disadvantages ie.four & half hour flight or a three day drive to get there.Having moved home in the last few months i actually have a decent size room under the main roof to use as a music room which was one of the conditions i requested as part of the deal when we talked about moving( and it worked) so like yourself prior to that it was a case of going out to a bit of a knocked up area in the shed & as you say summer is not the best time to be out there it used to regually hit the 50c.I am interested in knowing what sort of equipment i would need to have to be able to start some sort of home recording studio,i have at present in the studio to be our computer for the internet plus another that i do any music editing with cakewalk le & store all my music files on,both computers have an audidgy zs sound card i also have a small yamaha stagepass PA which i take out on my senior gigs as well as that i have an older yamaha emx 640 6 channel mixer /pa head with 2 x session speaker boxes with an eminence 12 plus a horn, completing my stuff i have a roland sonic cell & a mblaster2 unit which i use to play the completed mp3s with my backing on, i use an sm58 mic for my vocals,i only have just normal computer speakers on the computer but i can put the sound through the pa if required, i guess my question is do i need a recorder of sorts to do decent recordings & do i need monitor speakers as well, this is where my lack of knowhow is lacking, any advice most welcome from any source with hints on setups etc,the fruitcake offer still stands, best wishes simmo

Hi Simmo, Wow, I'd give free midi lessons any day for a slice of that pineapple fruit-cake. Maybe we'll be able to get together one day, I have alot of friends on your side of the country. It's John that has his studio set up in the garage, I snapped up the second biggest bedroom in the house on the day we moved and it's been the home-studio ever since. Your setup sounds fine and should allow you to produce some good sounds. I don't use the Audigy zs card but I've heard some good demos done on one. The Sonic Cell sounds are great. You should be able to get CD quality (or better) just using what you've got. I use a pair of AKG headphones for most of my work (just to spare the Missus and neighbours) and use Alesis Studio One monitors for playback, they have a very flat (un-coloured) sound and I have my ears pretty well tuned in to knowing how it'll sound through the PA at a live gig. I also have a little set of Diamond pc speakers just for a quick sound reference. They tell me whether or not the song will sound good on a small-speaker setup. Maybe we'll start a new Home Recording thread if you have any particular questions, many of the Forum members are coming up with great sounds on their home setups. Cheers, Dave.

Hi Simmo123 Your gear should be fine for home recording with more then cd quality. If you go to my website www.rossou.net, in the Music Gallery section there are 3 full mp3s recorded at home. If you look at the gear section, it has changed but the PA is teh same. We got rid of our powered mixer and trading that in for a mixing board (Beringher cheapo abit $200) and a power amp. laptop using Vanbasco playing midi files via the Edirol SD Sound Module. This is how we made the recordings at home. If we used an accoustic/elec guitar, it goes straight in the mixers line in. If electric guitar, we mike the amp. We may have to do a trial recording just to ensure the miked amp recorded loud enough. We just hooked up a portable mini disk player intp the mixers line out and hit the record button on the mini disk player. So everything is recorded live and no editing whatsover, so basically what you heare in the mp3 is how we sound live. I hook up the mini disk player via usb into my computer and the sony software converts the mini disk format to wav. I then conver the wav to mp3. Actually the wav sound is fantastic and I could not beleive how good it sounds. So with our basic setup, we can get a pretty decent sound but your's should be better :-) Rgds Pat PS. Read my latest thread re laptop disaster :-(

Hi Rainbow, that's a nice studio with some good guitar sounds too. Guess You could say that my studio has gone to the dogs because, I have 2 of them that lie down under the computer table and the midi keyboard. This limits my space even more but,I let the dogs hang out with me, as they are considerate and quiet and are old enough now not to chew up headphones and cables.
Sometimes friends come by and we write, record, or just play acoustic guitars. The space is limited but the good times are endless it seems. Just from looking at the photos and listening to the music, I just want to say that You have a cool studio set up.
Thanks for sharing the photos and the music we have really enjoyed this page.

Hi musicman ... you're very welcome , I'm glad you enjoyed photos & music ... I like the sound of friends coming over for a jam session ... I wish it were the same at my place ... you know, Travellin' Wilburys playing acoustic guitars in the kitchen ... you get the picture LOL!! I've got to say that this site & the members stage has got to be the next best thing ... you're able to share music in a virtual environment that is both inspiring & satisfying ... in the short time since I joined I have learned much ... they're a great bunch here. When you get a chance post a photo of one of your jam sessions ... always nice to put a face to the moniker!! BTW my next door neighbour comes from Memphis ... just down the road from Elvis literally ... neighbouring state to you if my geography serves me right. Best regards ... Rainbow:)

Hey Rainbow, I will post some photos of our jam sessions. I used to live in North Alabama about 150 miles from Memphis. I went to Graceland and really enjoyed seeing the cars and jeep that were used in the movies out in Hollywood.
Keep up the good work in the studio, The blue acoustic guitar is a cool one.
