Hi, This is my first venture into the forum although I've been a member of Midimart for a year or so. I'm an e-drummer and I use lots of midi files for practice purposes etc. My editing is done with Cubase SX, and in general I don't encounter too many problems. I am in no way an aficionado of 'Midi'. What I know of Cubase etc. is all by trial and error, so if I'm talking a load of 'tosh' just ignore me. However, I'm totally mystified by one problem that occurs occasionally, and I would be absolutely delighted if someone could shed some light on this. Sometimes I select a midi file, download it and play it through to make sure it's ok. Import the file to Cubase. Edit, when exported the file won't play. Frequently, I can re-import the file that has already been through Cubase, remove the top track which usually looks to have no data and when exported the file will then play ?? Sometimes a file, post cubase, will not play and attempts to import into cubase again fail because there is no data ?? I have just tried to edit the drums off the midimart file 'Fanfare for the common man', and I'm having problems. Anyone able to help me on this one ?? Thanks

Hi Slingerland, That sounds like a weird problem and, off the top of my head, I cant offer a solution, but if you can post me an example, pre and post modification, I'll take a look and see if I can work out what's happening. Regards, JohnG.

Hello JohnG, Thanks for your reply. I'm assuming you have Cubase. If you download the copy of Emerson, Lake and Palmer - Fanfare for the common man, from this web site. Import/Export it through Cubase and see if it still plays. I have just done this again, and the file seems to be getting erased by Cubase. When I try to import the 'cubased' file there is nothing there. If this doesn't happen to you, then I suspect a problem with my Cubase ?? My initial reaction to these problems was that the files were coded to prevent any alterations. I will send examples if I can work out how to send attachments. I'm not really 'thick', just a typical Drummer !! Thanks

Hi there Slingerland, I'll download the file and give it a try. I've only got a copy of Cubase LE, as it's not my sequencer of choice, but I imagine the principal and the main functions should be the same. I've PM'd you with an e-mail address you should have no problems making attachments to if you want to give that a try. Best regards, JohnG.

Hi Guys,
I've managed to find 3 midi files that should show the problem so I'm going to go through the usual process with Cubase (SX) and I'll let you have the 'before and after' versions, and an explanation of what happened this end. Cheers
