At the end of last night's Eurovision Terry Wogan said, "Western Europe might have to rethink their involvement." He then went on to mention our hopes of wining in the future are "poor." This block voting is beyond a joke. IMHO. What do others say? Bring back Papa Bendi, say I  Check this out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWYfKYFbasA

Yeah, well and truly time to pull the plug Pat, and Terry Wogan is 100% right......western countries pull out and let the eastern countries with a "chip on their shoulder" get on with it, they would'nt know talent if it smacked them in the gob!!

It is a bit of a joke, alright. Last night I had to wait until the final score was in before the guv of the place I was gigging at gave the go ahead to start up. Mind you, I only played an hour and 15 minutes before wrapping things up Anyway, everyone in the pub was amazed by the blatant block voting that was taking place. It was shameful to see the likes of the UK only get 14 points, coming in joint third as a result. That singer (from the UK) did a wonderful job and deserved more respect. Scandalous! Didn't Italy pull out in 1997 because they thought it was a farce?

Came across this article on the Eurovision.............sums up the whole voting farce up nicely I think.... If they dont get rid of the televote the contest is lost ……... where is the surprise in ALL countries given their votes to their neighbours. Also If Kosovo do join next year then then there will be near on 7 former Yugoslavia countries voting for each other.. SERBIA,BOSNIA, FYROM, MONTENGRO,SLOVENIA, CROATIA, KOSOVO.. i mean for god sake one country now has become 7. Thus their taste in music is forced on the rest of us. What is the point of me watchin anymore if none of my top 8 songs reach the top 10... NONE of them and they were all performed well.
I know the Irish sent rubbish but PORTUGAL, ICELAND, SWEDEN deserved better and Andy A song although bland was head and shoulders above CROATIA which would normally be destined for null points in the old pre-1993 contest.
No this is definitely the end of the contest as we know it and if EBU dont see it i cannot see any song writeer from ireland or UK bothering to send an entry if even with a great song you can finish towards the end of the pile.
least in the past i could say we woz robbed if my fav didnt get top spot but came 3rd or 4th.. this year im saying like everyone else what is the point... an alternative contest of 18 western countries needs to be formed for next year by the WEST. leave the balkans and ex-soviet union to orgainse their own contests too [/b]

Very good points Freeway. The only thing I disagree with is what you said about Croatia, those old guys were great. IMHO

Couldn't agree more with all your comments. As a songwriter myself, I find the whole competition [if you can call it that] extremely embarrassing. It's all about politics and image. All the fireworks and lunatic choreography is there to disguise the lack of musical content. I thought the UK entry this year was one of the better songs we have submitted in years and yet they were dismissing it before the competition even started. Yes maybe it is time for some of the true musical nations to withdraw and start a proper 'SONG' competition. Sorry I've went on a bit but its my opinion. Regards Bigmike

I agree with almost all that has been said -----yes the competition is undoubtly flawed now it`s a case of you vote for me and i`ll vote for you ---this competition has been terrible for sometime now and i do think that we should withdraw now-------As for Andy Abrahams song it wasn`t really that good it hasn`t done much here chartwise he did give an amazing performance but he was always on a loser i hope that he can move on from here but unfortunately the records tend to show that the eurovision has the kiss of death to most of the performers, but anyway good wishes to Andy i personally think he is a class act
