I wonder what the sound difference would be between Bandstand and Roland Virtual Sound Canvas??
I don't think that there is a free download version of Bandstand, as you would need to know the difference between your present midi player and Bandstand before you passed over your money

I think they are probably based on the same concept, but as you say, no demo packages available. All I know is that Bandstand is cheaper and thats what I use. There does seem to be an advantage with the Edirol package, in that it coverts directly to mp3, whereas Bandstand only converts to wav. Then use Soundforge to convert to mp3. Still, I suppose you pay your money and take your choice, but having already spent out on Bandstand, it's unlikely that I'll gor for the Edirol now.

well theres a big difference between the VSC and the hyper canvas in quality and price lol the VSC retail at around £40 the hyper canvas at £100 /£130 i think between bandstand and VSC bandstand is better but theres also the yamaha sysxg50 softsynth or you can get the vst plugin which is good if you get the plugin you can render to wav thru band in a box or powertracks even fruity loops or sonar rather than realtime recording. to be honest up to now i only use these softsynths just for home playback for stage work i use a standalone sound module the yamaha mu50

I used VSC3 for a few years before i purchased sonic cell, and i have to say in comparison to the hyper canvas (which a buddy of mine has) the VSC3 sounded every bit as good as it for less than half the price, in fact he ended up purchasing VSC3 after hearing my conversions with it!!

knimmo the good thing with hyper canvas is you can set paramaters for each inst ie bass trb middle also on the drum side you can retune each drum if you load a midifile and you think the snare drum is to high you can tune it down also you can eq it down side is you just cant resave as midi you gotta save as a data or summit better reading the info or maybe use it in audio pro and alter yer midi tracks there then save. there is a small prog i think its called vsthost and what you can do if recording in realtime is load yer hyper canvas plugin then your midifile and theres a setting for midi data ie chans blah blah theres one if you tick it and set your volume levels on each track then set it to play it wlll keep them volume levels but you might have a different a better way anyway good luck with the recording i know what its like doin the odd track now and then is fine but redoin whole sets is a pain in the butt levi2

Hi, Sorry to bump this old thread. Just wanted you to know I developped a small program (whose interface is still in French, sorry) called KarPbo. It's a basic midi player/converter (wav,mp3,ogg) that use external soundfonts. The one I actually use is Titanic. I'm very happy with it and I'm currently modifying it to let the user change instruments and some parameters like Pan, reverb, chorus amonf other things. V1.2 will be on line in a few weeks. For those interested in Lyrics, it may export sync lyrics to a KOK file one may sing along with KaraFun, KaraWin and other Karaoke players. Some demo sounds are there : artagap.free.fr/son/relax.mp3 Short (8 sec.) 188kB artagap.free.fr/son/MannixG.mp3 5.3MB artagap.free.fr/son/le_vieux_leon.mp3 4.7MB Hope I have an english interface and help file this year Regards from France. Arthur.
