Roland SD-20/80

Any users of the roland SD-20 or SD-80, was thinking of investing but would like to hear any comments first from any users, or what sound modules you think are best.

Just take a listen to the mp3 files on this site, they are played through the SD-80....

I myself think it is one excellent piece of kit. XG - GS - GM - GM2.

Ultimately, what you buy is your choice, but here is something to consider.

Earlier this year, we were seriously thinking about buying either the SD-20 or SD-80, and getting price quotes from the local Roland agent in Cape Town - until the Sonic Cell release date was announced....

Roland Sound Canvas has been the stalwart of musicians that use midi at gigs for years, and is doubtless the leader in this particular market, but my concern was that these units were both released in 2002. This was a major factor in our decision to buy a Sonic Cell instead of an SD series module. In addition, we considered the price difference between the Sonic Cell and a module that was released 5 years ago.

That looks a serious piece of kit a.j., what price are they retailing at?

You'd have to check locally, I bought mine in South Africa.

The cheapest I've seen online in the UK was about GBP449.00 - most of the sites are aroung the GBP500.00 mark.
