Who makes the best sounding (regardless of price or type analog /digital); Chorus, Distortion, Compressor, Delay, Reverb. Pedals only - Please NO multi effect allowed in this post. Please give your opinion... rate from 1 - 10 with 10 being best. Sound is the only factor to be considered at this time.

It's nigh on impossible to say which company makes the best sounding pedal! One persons favourite pedal is anothers rubbish pedal! Having said that though, a pedal I really like is the Digitech "Bad Monkey" overdrive, very similar to a Tube Screamer but with more range and a lot cheaper! For what it does I'd have to give it a 10! There is a good demo of the Bad Monkey on YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=7LOWPCr-8twCheers John

Personally my preference is boss every time and theres so much choice, something for everyone.10/10
I know you didn't want to discuss money but if any one reads this and is a bit strapped behringer do a whole range of floor pedals similar in design to the boss there very cheap and actually don't sound to bad. 7/10.

The Behringer pedals are excellent value for money!
I've used a few of them and they sound as good as the higher priced pedals.

Hi all regarding effects pedal I don't think you can go past the Pod Line 6 either the basic or updated models it has everything you need plus more. Cheers Don.

I didn't realize they were still doing the RAT but after reading your post i had a look on the web and there still going strong, i had a RAT about 15 years ago its a good pedal always just seemed a bit waspy though if you get my drift.

Boss are excellent for effects and my favourite at the moment is the Overdrive Distortion twin pedal, the OD20. Very versatile, can be used as a normal stomp box but you can programme it as well - even has an octaver built in. For delay, if you can buy vintage gear (Roland Space Echo, Wem Copycat, etc) then this best if you don't like the harshness of digital delay. I've been using an Ibanez Analogue Delay for 20 years and it still works OK. Joe Meek rack compressors are excellent value for money, I really like the sound of the Boss Chorus Ensemble pedal and the DOD Stereo Phaser. Lexicon reverb (I think) are still regarded as the best and also on the overdrive front, my Big Muff pedal is awesome!!!

I'm still using my old reliable Boss pedals. I recently bought the new GT8 from Roland and it suits my taste, affordable too. It's 10 for me.

Hey guys...since I'm a guitar player trapped in a midi-based duo...I'm constantly looking for new sounds to keep myself interested in playing. So often, after playing with a computer...one's own style gets lost in the mix. That is, if you let it...and I try not to. Some of my effects/stomp boxes include: Boss ME-50 (my workhorse), Danelectro "Daddy-O" Overdrive,Cry Baby wah-wah. I checked out the youtube video on the "Bad Monkey" and that's a cool sound. However, reviews on the "Bad Monkey" say that this pedal only sounds good through tube amps and not solid state amps. Just thought I'd pass that along. Hope I'm wrong....for $49...I'm willing to take a chance. Anybody else heard the same thing about the "Bad Monkey"?

Hi everybody. Just thought I'd add to this. I currently use a Korg AX1000G, and, as good as it is, being so versatile, it's not possible to twiddle knobs with your foot half way through a song. On that basis, I am seriously considering going back to "stomp boxes". Many years ago I had a custom made pedal board (before you could buy them pre-assembled) which combined various distortion/overdrive units, usually MXR, color sound phaser, an occasional Electro Harmonix voice box, and my personal favorite of all time, an Electro Harmonix flanger. Remember the big green paint, three knobs and a couple of teeny slide switches ?. This was all wired up through an old Wem (valve) copycat echo (lush) which I had modified and had a variable speed motor.( I believe Wem made one like this in later years. Don't get me wrong, I think that multi effect units are great if you can modify the sounds "on the run", but sadly with the majority, this option is not always possible. Any-one else feel the same way? Regards, Lennon.

Hi Lennon. I'm back using stomp boxes again but i used a Quadraverb gt with a midi controller for a while and i loved it.But your right it takes so long to set.I somehow managed to lose all my sounds and i've never got round to setting them again----maybe one day. Regards Eddie
