Was wondering: How many out there actually saw the Beatles 'In person" at a live concert? I saw their last concert at Shea Stadium in Aug 1966. paid 5 bucks (US) at the gate to get in!. That would bever happen today!

You're a lucky man,Danboy.Closest I got was seeing MacArtney In concert 3 times--absolutely brilliant each time. Sadly the closest the fabs ever came to my home town (after they became famous )was 60 miles away in Dundee but tickets were impossible to get. They did play in Aberdeen before they hit the big time and there are many stories doing the rounds about that night,at the last estimation there must have been 5000 people who claimed to be there ,and the venue only holds 800. I've seen the video footage of the shea stadium gig.Did you manage to hear anything they played above the screams? Anyway i bet it's a treasured memory.I'm very jealous!! Regards Eddie

What a great thread!! i saw the Beatles when they first came to N.Ireland they played in a cinema house called the `ritz`i think if my memory serves me right the ticket price was 7/6 that would be around 37pence lol i think !!It was a variety type show with other acts sharing the bill The Beatles played about 45/50 minutes and they were excellent But the following week the Stones played the same place i saw them as well they were outstanding. Yes, you actually could hear them, at least from where i was sitting, high, high in the "nosebleed sction" a we call it here. The sound probably carries better the higher you are anyway. I remember, they had a limo come in as a "dupe", and the Beatles were actually in a another vehicle (at least I think that's what i remember!!),,I do remember the "Cyrcle" (Red Rubber Ball) preceeded the Fab Four (also a Brian Epstein group)...The Beatles played about 20-30 minutes...That's all that you got back then!!! Oh, well, back to trimming my hedges here in sunny Florida (it's gonna be 82 degees(farenheit) today!...Doing the garden, digging the weeds, who could ask for more!!..LOL!

Hi Guys'n'Gals I saw the Beatles on their first National UK tour in May 1963 - yes just as they were hitting the headlines but before they had any real hits. It was in the Odeon Cinema in the centre of Glasgow, Scotland, and in those days you sat in your seat and watched the show. It was a variety show and the running order was as follows: First Half: Compere Tony Marsh: The Terry Young Six: Ian Crawford: Louise Cordet: David Macbeth: and closing the first half were Gerry and the Pacemakers. They were just breaking too and they were absolutely superb. Second Half: Terry Young Six (again): Erkey Grant: ROY ORBISON ( The main reason I bought my ticket) and finally THE BEATLES!! If everyone was still alive could you imagine what a show like that would cost nowadays. When the Lads came on you could not hear a thing after the intro to Twist and Shout - just constant deafening but exciting screams - but everyone stayed in their seats, as you did back then. I remember half way through their set a legless Glasgow drunk managed to get onto the stage at the side nearest John Lennon and started to stagger over towards John, who was starting to look edgy, but a few bouncers appeared and got the guy off the stage before he was able to reach John. I'll never forget that night!!! It's interesting to note that the Big O was due to tour and this was to have been his show, but because the Beatles were just breaking, their management worked out some kind of deal to get them on the show which was due to be a sell-out due to Roy's popularity. Not just on the show - they ended up headlining it, and everything else is, as they say, history. It's fascinating to think that George ended up playing along with Roy Orbison in the Travellin Wilburys many years later. What a great string you started Danboy - you've taken me back to the days that got me into music, and that magic buzz never goes away.
Cheers
Peter
