Sorry, I should have said that a conductor's score is much more like the score that we may use (piano, guitar chords, melody line) having often 20 to 30 instrumental lines to a page. Just a few measures, typically 3 to 6, to a page. Often in a large format too i.e. bigger than A4 or quarto size. You can see roughly what a conductor's score looks like by ordering a miniature score. These are for student study purposes. JohnG.

A quick summary. So a type 0 MIDI file is one that is expressly made for MIDI file players. Every note for each instrument is held within just one track in the sequence that the notes are to be played.
A type 1 MIDI file has all the instruments separated into different tracks. It's a more convenient format when you're creating or editing the file.
I'll try to post an example of each for you (in simplified form). JohnG.

WOW !!!!!!!!! That was quite a lucid explanation. Now I know that Type 1 MIDI file has all the instruments separated into different tracks, wheras Type0 MIDI has all the instruments in one track. Please tell me how to locate or point at individual instrument tracks for editting purposes, in Type 1 MIDI file ? Where can I locate the different instruments , on Cakewalk ? In the Piano roll view ? Now dont get angry with me if I'm stupid !!!!
