What, if possible, is the best way to remove fade outs at the end of midifiles?

Hi Midimike,
There are two possible ways, one is to go into the midifile and edit out all the (probably) CC#7s, again probably from each track (channel). It's a bit labour intensive (boring) but it's usually the first thing I try. Most MIDI files don't have fades using the master control (99.9% IMO) which would be much easier to delete (again IMO).
This may give you a reasonable, usable file, but sometimes the ending may still not be satisfactory and then what you need is someone with JazzCat's skills to compose a suitable finish for the file unless, of course, you have those musical skills yourself. This usually means cutting the current ending right off at the last usable bar and putting in (composing) a good sounding ending.
Hope that helps. JohnG.

Dumb question time. Well, not a dumb question.... a question from a dummy. LOL! EEEK!! There's that horrifying word SysEx again! ( Kidding on both)
If there is no main volume set with a SysEx string, what is the default?

Hi JazzCat,
No question is dumb if you don't know the answer! Not everybody (thank goodness!) can be or is a MIDI maniac. Who would learn all this geeky Sys-Ex stuff if they didn't need to? Answer that weirdo John!
The answer is most straightforward it's 127 JazzCat.
If you want to know more go to my little section "(7) the setup measure" and look at part 3 "the nitty gritty detail". In there you'll find, after the GM on etc. a little bit on the MIDI master volume. Don't be phased by all the Sys-EX detail (the hex is at the end of that table) just try messing around with the volumes. One as a setup command. Then a string of them, say in track 1, as a fade. I've given a table of start volumes but I'm sure you're familiar enough with setting 7 bit values to just alter the Byte before the F7H to allow a complete fade out.
Hint, space them apart to allow the sound module to deal with them just as you would CC#7 or #11 fades. But, hey you know that! They should fade all the instruments simultaneously.
Hope it helps. JohnG. (JAS)

Great Mike, Always a good idea to have a bash yourself. It's how I started, like all people, as JazzCat says, K.I.S.S. principle. Then you try something else then something a bit more complex and before you know it you're a midigeek like wot I are. (again to quote the lovely JC). Now which forum was that JazzCat? Hope you're successful. If you have trouble I think JazzCat's offer is still open.. All the best, JohnG.
