90% of us use our computers to record audio by using cakewalk, or cubase, (or if your the die hard audio nut like me) have a complex system running sonar 6 with reason running ASIO and full midi automation. but we all experience a similar scenario.....
there comes a time when you insert a plugin or cue a new audio track and the system's CPU goes critical...... Today, your midimart geek describes how to avoid this by using the msconfig command from the run prompt.
XP/2000/NT/98: Click START > RUN > MSCONFIG
VISTA: Click START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > RUN>MSCONFIG
Head to the startup pane and use the list below to determine what you can disable/ or not.
These are the most common files that use pretty hefty processing
The following items are not generally considered system critical. However, I have provided the details of each so you can decide for yourself if you want to shut them off or not. I personally would but I'm a techie weirdo and I'll tweak anything
hpsysdrv - hpsysdrv.exe is a utility from HP which monitors how many recoveries have been made in Microsoft Office suite. This is a non-essential process.
agrsmmg.exe - agrsmmsg.exe is a process installed alongside Agere's SoftModem Assistant and provides additional configuration options for these devices. This is a non essential process.
alcwzrd.exe - RealTek Audio Driver process wizard. This is a non essential process
ehmsas.exe - ehmsas.exe is a process belonging to the Microsoft Windows Media Center and is described as the Windows Media Center State Aggregator Service. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.
msnmsgr.exe - msnmsgr.exe is the main executable for MSN Messenger, which is bundled with Windows and Microsoft Office. This is a non essential process.
aolsoftware.exe - aolsoftware.exe is a process which belongs to the AOL Service. This program is non-essential process to the running of the system, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.
ctfmon.exe - ctfmon.exe is a part of the Microsoft Office suite. It activates the Alternative User Input Text Input Processor (TIP) and the
Microsoft Office XP Language Bar. This program is a non-essential system process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.
hphmon06.exe - hphmon05.exe is a process relating to the Hewlett Packard software HP Photosmart, and provides easy access to flash card reading functions. This program is non-essential process to the running of the system, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.
jusched.exe - jusched.exe is a process installed alongside Sun Microsystem's Java2 suite and, and checks for/installs Java updates. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.
Hpzipm12.exe - hpzipm12.exe is loaded by the Hewlett-Packard PSC 2100, 2200, 4100, and 6100 series printer drivers. They are essential for the smooth running of these devices
Realsched.exe - realsched.exe is a program which schedules for manual update checks for Real Networks products. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference however disabling may prevent notification of updates.
ehtray.exe - ehtray.exe is a process is the tray bar process for the Microsoft Media Center. It gives you easy access to the digital media manager. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference.
iTunesHelper.exe - iTunesHelper.exe is a process belonging to Itunes MP3 streaming tool by Apple, which allows you to play MP3's. This process speeds up iTunes when it starts, and the program also monitors for connected iPod devices. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference
nvsvc32.exe - nvsvc32.exe is a process that belongs to the NVIDIA graphics card drivers. This process should not be removed to ensure that your graphics card drivers is working properly.
mdm.exe - mdm.exe is associated with Microsoft Windows process debugging system. It allows the user to debug Internet Explorer errors by using a script interface tool. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference
