What a joy to be able to watch the Manchester derby match on Sunday. For obvious reasons it may seem an odd word to use the word "joy" when you think of the circumstances, but it was like going back to days of yesteryear. Man United strode out as though they had a centre forward, a wing half and two fullbacks because of the memories that the numbered shirts projected as you focused on the numbers one to eleven. Man City had plain sky blue shirts fashioned in the vogue of the terrible Munich tragedy year and both sets of shirts were devoid of the usual garish advertising trappings that we obviously have to endure in this modern day to pay high wages. And the minutes silence was exactly that, full respect from two sets of fans. The laying of wreaths was also quiet poignant by two managers who forgot their differences towards each other for a moment in time. Well done Manchester. The eyes of the world focussed on what could have been a fiasco, but which turned out to be a fine tribute from people who showed that in this day and age of shallow feelings and constant unrest towards fellow man, we still have some worthwhile goodness to commemerate the loss of life.
