Hi Guys I've never put anything on the sports section before, it's not generally my thing, but I just wondered what your thoughts were on David Beckham going to the states, I heard a few discussions on the Radio, saying it's the beginning of the end for him, and his career is over, with his money do you think he's bothered!! But according to the press he's being well received in the US, and tickets are selling like hot cakes, just wondered what your thoughts were? Jacqui

They can have him.....
He will let the USA down, just like he lets everyone else down...
His day is done......!!
I personally don't think he was that good anyway.... Just my thought.

Champions League medal and every honour the domestic league could offer. Played for Manchester United AND Real Madrid. Captained his country in a World Cup, finishing with 96 caps. Now that he's " finished " he's only on a contract of £250 Million!!
Imagine what he could have achieved had he been good!

I'm not a big follower of soccer, but I think it's just for the money and to come to the States. I think that the US Soccer is trying to boost sales and interest in a largely unresponsive market. It's not his ability or inability its the "name game". Big name to attract interest. It won't last long and won't gain much of anything. Pelee couldn't generate any interest either. Soccer is very distant down the list of sports in America. Most are into NFL, Nascar, Baseball, NHL and Basketball. I even guess that the college sports are ranking higher then soccer. Even the NHL (hockey)is having a hard go of it especially from the southern (warmer) states.

G'day Jacqui, I have to agree with Trikzter in all that he's posted. Good luck to Beckham, I wish that I could earn 1/10th of what he's going to, because the I'd still be rich!

Money does make the world go 'round and US sport has plenty of it. Good luck to anybody who can make a lot of money doing their thing.

I've never been his biggest fan, but his achievements speak for themselves. Does he need the money ? Don't think so............... Does his wife want to live in the States ? Would his children have a better life, free to some extent from the media hounds in the UK ? Yes of course they would. Don't forget he has his coaching school set up stateside as well as in the UK so killing 2 or 3 birds with one stone springs to mind. 1. Do his bit for "soccer" 2. Develop the coaching schools 3. Put his family first Hats off to him he's earned the right to do what he likes. The fact that he is grossly overpaid isn't his fault but is due to the old adage of supply & demand. Just my view............

You know in the states football (soccer) has by the vast majority of american sports fans been percieved as a less than manly sport. I don't think that beckham is the man to change this perception. He will appear to be more of a beta male in what is a distinctly alpha male sports world in the u.s.a. Converted fans will buy tickets when he comes to town but I don't believe he will win over the average adult male american sports fan. Women and children only. I also don't think they will understand his one dimensional style of play, free kicks and long passes, with all the hype they will be expecting Pele type theatrics. He will be short lived as most fads are.

Thanks for all your comments on Becks I think generally you like him and agree he is doing a good thing by going to America, it seems to me that Football like some other careers has a certain lifespan, and if he can manage to to continue his love of football, and still make money out of it Good Luck to him, I think he will certainly have a lot more scope in the US than he ever would in Spain. Haha in a nutshell - the goal against Greece to take England into the World Cup epitimises what that guy did for Football - I'm just sorry he got mixed up with Posh Spice and went all 'celebrity' on us - oh well.
