Ive bought an external Soundcard fr my Laptop. [Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 Nx ] and have installed the Software.
My intention is to use this laptop, loaded with Vanbasco, to play Midis.
In Vanbasco setup, there is still no sign of recognition of the USB Device in the Midi output Tab.
I have gone to Control Panel, Sounds, Audio, and its recognised under Sounds, but in the Midi out Tab it does not appear.
Anyone got any idea what is wrong.
Jerry

Have you made it the default device for midi under the sounds/audio menu?

Have you made it the default device for midi under the sounds/audio menu? Yes...its the default device under "Sound Playback", and "Sound Recording", but for some reason its not under "Midi Music Playback", whiuc shows "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth" as the default device, with no option to change.

Jerry, The Audigy 2nx has a soundfont and will work as a midi sound player (as well as audio) the 2nx doesn't have midi in and out but it should have the Soundfont midi soundset. If it's not showing up in your vanBasco outputs then you've probably NOT installed the midi-drivers. They should show up as either Audigy, Soundfont or usb-driver. What you probably need to do is select whatever you get as the USB device as the output of vanBasco. The quickest way I can suggest is to uninstall and then re-install the usb midi-drivers from your Audigy setup disc. Let me know how you go. Cheers, Dave.

although it has a soundfont set, it still needs to have physical (or virtual) midi connections to and from. Resolution: get an edirol (or similar) USB midi dongle (Recommends www.thomann.deyou can pick them up for twenty quid you can also get a virtual midi connection using www.hurchalla.com/Maple_driver.html

I uninstalled everything, re installed, and sure enough..its now working perfectly.Dont know why, but the first installation seemed to only install part of the overall software.Vanbasco now recognises the Soundcard. Many thanks to you, and all others who responded. Jerry

Well done Jerry! No need for the dongle Paul, it connects directly to midi via the usb cable, it has a built in usb midi interface but doesn't have seperate midi in/out connectors (just the usb and audio in/out). Cheers, Dave.
