Hi Paul This is one that's really niggling me, you may be able to help. I want to put some desktop shortcuts on my boyfriends PC at his office, if I put a shortcut for say - yahoo on my PC, it comes up as a small Red Y icon the same as is on the web page, if I try the same on his PC, you get the Blue explorer sign with the words yahoo by it, he has lots of shortcuts, that all look the same, and wanted to make them easier to identify, but I can't seem to get the Icons to show the same as on my PC, he's got Windows XP, and Explorer 7, which is the same as mine, any ideas why it won't work the same on his. Jacqui

you need to take the icons from your temporary internet files, place them in a seperate folder EG: My Documents --> Icons and change the properties of the webpage on the desktop to see the icon. it is simple......... if have a little know how

Quick hint; you can right-click the existing shortcut icon, select properties, click on Change Icon, and choose anything that takes your fancy. PS: just a thought, maybe you need to create the shortcuts directly to the program, not via explorer?

Another way to change icons is to right-click and go to properties - Then chose "Customize", then lastly on Change Icon...... There are millions you can download from the Internet. Looks like you beat me too it Gibbo....

Wow I'm Impressed. I've searched this one out on the net before, and came up with Zilch solutions. I've followed the instructions and managed to change Icons on mine, I'll try tomorrow on my fellas. That link to worldstart was great thanks Freeway. Paul, Thanks for the advice, I think this was was a bit basic for you am I right (easy peasy 4 Paul) Gibbo, what do you mean by not via explorer, how do I do that? And Mr Midimart, my little buddy, There are millions you can download from the Internet. tell me pray where art they? ;D Should all sites have there own Icons, eg Midimart do you have one, also I have previously saved shortcuts from a certain site, but if I visit the site and look in the Temp folders at the flavicons, there does not appear to be an Icon there for that site? You guys are fab, need some help with some dog grooming, how are you fixed! Thanks Jacqui( big kiss to you all)

Paul, Thanks for the advice, I think this was was a bit basic for you am I right (easy peasy 4 Paul) I Had to think of my old webdesign days and how the temporary internet files work.. they use a file called favicon.ico Which is stored on the site's server (MIDIMART.NET HAS ONE) www.midimart.net/favicon.ico if you wanna see it it wasn't easy, i had to to a bit of lateral thinking on this one

Hi Jacquie, (Jacquie said: Gibbo, what do you mean by not via explorer, how do I do that? ) Answer: I don't know if it actually applies to what you were doing and Paul may correct me if I'm wrong but here's what I meant; Windows Explorer shows a bunch of shortcuts to your files. That's probably why you're getting an Explorer icon for everything, you're creating a shortcut to a shortcut. If you find the actual program on the HDD (ie: BlahBlah.exe) rather than the shortcut to it via Windows Explorer, you'll get the already installed icon for that program instead of the Explorer icon. Just open the main drive where the programs are stored, find the .exe file, right click it and click on create shortcut, drag the created shortcut to the desktop. Then rename it, if you like, by double clicking on the name, eg: change "Shortcut to MSWord" to "Word" or some such. Hope this clears it up.
