Well the issue is resolved........ How?.... well... i really don't know.... let me explain. just a brief history main computer has XP home.... second computer is 2000.... will not see each other on the network. ok... so second computer only had a 4 gig drive for the program and a second 10 gig drive for the data. so i decided that since i had a spare 8 gig drive i would reformat it and put 2000 on it and it would give me more room for soft ware. During the process for some reason the windows 2000 disc would not load. so i thought the heck with it I'll throw 98 on and then upgrade to 2000 using an upgrade disk. strangest thing happend.... Network drivers were installed ...so i thought lets run the network cable... bang..... Little computer see's big computer on the Network. Wow... well i thought lets run my window's ME upgrade disk... I run it and Bam... not both computers see each other... network runs great.... Can't explain it... but ... it works.

Nice to see everything is OK. Coincidentally enough one of my computers, the desktop one, has decided to stop working completely. Not sure why this is but I can tell you that for some reason it seems as though there is absolutely no power getting to the tower.
I have checked all leads, fuses etc. But I'm still at a loss as to what has happened.
Fortunately however I have an excellent warranty which includes a home visit by an engineer so hopefully he will come soon and sort out the problem. Till then I will simply have to make do with the laptop.

Had a similar prob out of warranty $65 for new power supply, so for 75cents I replaced the blown capaciter in the power supply good old multimeter and soldering iron.

Paul, Just an opinion but I'm with Thingyy on this, I've repaired plenty of power supplies, pcs and musical gear! Why not? 75 cents beats the hell out of $65 any day. As long as you know what you're doing, that is, if you're an electrical-klutz you could end up costing yourself a lot more than $65! Anyone with a bit of electrical suss knows to make sure it's not live and to discharge the caps before working on it so repairing it makes a lot more sense than adding to the local land-fill.

i think if it was a good pricey PSU i would repair it if i had the knowledge if not prolly just use me spares lol but theyre only 300 watts so couldnt run much from me tower 3 hard drives 2 dvd writers etc etc Also i would wanna know why the capaciter would blow

Caps break down easily especially on TVs,transformers, and security lights.

My extended warranty covers such things so I don't have to worry about such things

point taken, but i would strongly insist not undertaking this kind of work. this SHOULD be left to professionals, considering the risk of fire/death involved in a cap discharging.
nearly all power-supply problems occur in either the high-voltage section of the power supply or in the voltage regulator stage so this makes it a key area for something to go wrong.
as for 75 cents............ not worth risking your life for IMHO.
get it seen to professionally
