Found this great web site that offers a FREE check and report on what's running on your PC. Also shows whether the items are friend or foe! www.fileresearchcenter.com/

I checked this out. Impressive tool. Thanks Paul.
Is it only the one go you get at checking the files?

good idea.but still nothing like sitting down and doing a manual check. it missed 2 or 3 i purposly installed.
Personally, i don't like the idea of activX controls, this sneaky little bugger plays slightly with the registry and although say's it's spyware free, redirects you to their site every 30 days!!!!!

A manual check is fine IF you know what all the processes mean but most people don't have a clue! It won't re-direct me anywhere I don't want to go. I can turn off the active x until i need to use it again.

I tend to agree with Paul H, I'm always suspicious of any free programs, they generally always have some kind of Adware or Spyware involved even though they will say they do not.

tools > Internet options > Programs > Manage Add Ons
there you can disable your activX plugins.
although i disagree with turning them off if u get a bad one.
it still doesn't compensate for good internet vigilance and awareness.
If only every mistake in life was as easy

If only every mistake in life was as easy Thanks Paul for that. You said: although i disagree with turning them off if u get a bad one.Why would you leave a bad one turned on?

Sorry, My lack of sleep has caught up with me.
what i meant to say was......
If your exercise vigilance online, you should have no need to turn them off. IE: using sites that install activx plugins, as these can control up to 90% of the controls for your PC including Account modifications, command prompts ( format C:/) Deleting your registry etc. some of the bad ones can also rootkit your pc and render it non-functional

Thanks for clearing that up Paul. I will leave them be unless any become suspect.
At least I know now how to turn them on and off!
