I wonder what the problem is but posting into the forum and checking posts has become very slow and it feels like its hanging. This was never so before the upgradation. I hope its only a temporary phase and we'll be able to dart in and out of the various departments in our Forum.

It can be a bit slow at times, much like to any forum, really. Do you experience this slowness whenever you log on, or is this a recent thing?

Hi Pat I had no such problems before and this is very recent - last thwo or three days. I thought I might have a bug so I have just completed a thorough check and ran Adaware, Spybot, Trojan Remover, AVG etc and cleaned my registry. I have also defragmented all my drives. MidiMart is still very slow and I hope this will ease off.

Shyam.... I'd just like to make one thing clear.... The forum, although maintained by MidiMart and staff IS NOT actually serviced or uses any of the MidiMart bandwidth. In other words, the Forum is hosted entirely on an independent sever, If anything is a miss with the forum, it is always server side from Pro Boards.... Just wanted to make that clear, our upgrade has nothing to do with the Forum - Only the uploads......

this sounds like a typical "UPSPEED" symptom caused by hookie software.
from Years of IT experience, it has been known that certain pieces of software can be installed unbeknownst to you by websites. and no amount of software can remove all of them, so you have to dive into the OS and blast thoselittle bugs outta there.
have you tried using the "msconfig" run command from your Operating system.
maybe that's something you could look into.
you could also try a netstat -n from a command prompt and at least you can see which port is running what.
if it's stray software, you can at least block the tcp/udp ports on your firewall.
hope this helps.
if it's any help, if you use MSN messenger live, i can help you in real time to do this.
drop me a mail
Rgds;
Paul

I've had this trouble from time to time, not just with this Forum but with others, it's generally to do with the traffic and bandwidth being used, after a short while it does return to normal. It has nothing to do with the upgrade! Unless your confident and know what your doing I don't recommend fiddling with your firewall or msconfig! The spyware programmes you are using should pick up any nasties..

Hi Everyone Just to let you know everything's fine again. I re-ran all theAnti Virus stuff I had and ran a complete scan with Ad Aware, Spybot etc and defragmented the drives again . I came across something called the FaaSt which seemed to have caused all this slowing down. By the way,Glenn I'm sorry but I couldnt help thinking it was the upgrade that slowed things down. It was a coincidence, happening around the same time. I know better now ! Thanks guys for all the advice and thank you Paul for offering to help me online. I might ask for advice on other computer related problems, but for now, everything is cool !

i came across that FaaSt bug before, it keeps the processor and RAM going full pelt with useless processes, thereby slowing it down, msconfig would've got u there to disable it. Quick Tip: WinXP/2000/vista: if something is slowing your pc down, hold Ctrl+Alt+Del. open task manager and see which process it is, if it looks weird EG: winshell.exe ALG.exe (Stuff that wouldn't be used by the OS, END THE PROCESS OF IT. if the process is run by user, not system, chances are it's a bug you have on your system, so head into START:RUN: type msconfig, head to the STARTUP panel and disable anything that looks strange or has no vendor details. i'm always on hand to give anyone help with this by any means. Maybe Glenn will make me a Mod of PC/Sound Support? ?? here endeth the lesson Paul

Is "AGRSMMG.EXE" a necessary system file or not? agrsmmg.exe - agrsmmsg.exe is a process installed alongside SoftModem Assistant and provides additional configuration options for these devices. This is a non essential process and may be removed/disabled
