Hi Guys and Girls
I have just unpacked my faithful old Acoustic guitar which has been in storage for 5 months. It appears it didn't like the journey to Canada. I have lost all the notes on the top E string from the 9th fret down and it has developed a buzz on the bottom E string. If anyone can give me an idea how to repair it I would be most grateful.I am guessing the neck has warped and need to know how to correct it.
Regards
Mark

You can't unless you have a load of experiance at it. Guitar necks are touchy little buggers.. If this particular guitar really means a lot to you, or is an expensice or specialty ax I'd take it to a repair shop. ( hope you have one in your area). If not, it''s time to replace it.

Heres a cheap fix.If only the high e string is buzzing and the rest are alright mask in front and behind the top nut (one stripe of masking tape should do) loosen of the offending string pull it off to one side, drop on some superglue into the string slot.Give it a bit of time to go off and with a junior hacksaw blade carefully cut your string slot keeping the blade higher at the fingerboard side .Remember not to cut as far down to the nut material or youll have to start again. Hope this helps!!!!

It definitely sounds like you need a truss rod adjustment, it's simple enough to do yourself, google truss rod adjustment there are plenty of sites detailing the procedure. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself a local guitar shop should be able to do the adjustment for you at little or no charge.
You haven't said whether your guitar has nylon or steel strings, nylon string guitars don't usually have a truss rod because they don't exert enough tension to cause the neck to bend or deform.
It's a good idea if your not going to use your guitar for some time to loosen the strings.
Cheers John

Yes a repair shop hands on would be my first stop but...
A simple check for "nut groove depth" is to press the string in question hard down to the fret at the 3rd fret, you should have a very small clearance between the string and the 2nd fret and slightly more at the 1st fret. If the first fret is still touching the string then the nut is cut too deep. If it's colder where you are now than where the guitar was played before then it's a fair bet to say that you need to back the truss rod off a bit allowing the neck to bow a LITTLE more. Only ever turn the truss adjustment 1/4" at a time, re-tune the strings [you did back them off right?...lol] and let it settle for a day or so. It will take a little time to move fully so don't over do it...and buy the right tool because you should adjust your action every season if you like it low... Depending on the quality of the instrument if the neck has warped I would return it to the manufacturer. I shipped a nice oldish 1979 Maton 12 string [oz guitar] across the country to have the fretboard replaced and some slight re-finishing done. The value of the instrument far outweighed the expense of the repair.
best of luck
