I have owned and played with lots of different effects and I have not found any better or worse than others I find that the sounds are in them all its tweaking them and you come up with something similar all the time its what your happy with that counts.
Good luck Mark

My Ibanex tube screamer TS-9 bit the dust so I went out and bought a cheap Danelectro Fab distortion pedal for 24.00 to tide me over till I can get it fixed. In the meantime, I am pleasantly surprised at how good the Danelectro unit sounds for the money. Depending on how much it would cost to fix my TS-9 I'll probably end up using this little cheapo unit as my main pedal. So I guess this squares with the post that some pedals are not any better or worse--its just how you tweak them. In the main, tho, I rarely need to use a distortion pedal because most of my material is Elvis and Roy Orbison, but for those odd songs like "Smooth" and "I Love a Rainy Night" I need a little dirt. Civicman Completly agree with you Civicman. I've had a TS-8 Tubescreamer since new, and used it for years. I then tried a Behringer overdrive pedal and as you said a little tweaking and it was as good as the TS8, a little different but deninatley usable, and it's only $40 Aust, whereas a TS8 can cost up to $400!! It's not the brand of equipment thats important but how you use it. and you always have to comprimise, it's never going to be perfect!

I use a zoom g71ut which has been programmed for hank marvin and The Shadows type echoes. It sounds fantastic.
