I'm using a Line6 Variax which has a Banjo patch, although I've never used it in a gig situation.

Hi Tyrone....
There are quite a few of our midi files created with an OLD Casio midi guitar.
Whilst the end results a fine, there may be a few problems you may encounter.... My friend with the Casio has to play deaf - Wear cans to produce the guitar work, as there is a very slight delay in the pick up and actual sound.
Although this is an old guitar, the more modern ones may have conquered this problem, he has never used it live - too much brain work.....
Best of luck.

The variax is a digital guitar that models and sounds like 25 different guitars ie Tele, Strat, Les Paul, 12 String acoustic & electric, electric sitar, banjo, various acoustics and many more models. I always like the double take I get from people when I use it, it looks and plays like a regular guitar except it doesn't have any visible pickups. Check out this link for a picture and more information: Variax Guitars

I've used a Variax guitar now for 3 years, initially I had the 500 which I eventually traded for the 600 because it had the Tremelo. If it was lost or stolen I would get another one in a minute!

Hi John....just checked-out the link to Variax and I'm quite amazed. Couple of questions for you. Do you use the PODxt with it? Can you use other FX units? What are the acoustic sounds like live? Do you play through an amp or PA?
Sorry to quiz you like this but the product sounds very inviting.

I do use a POD Xt but the Variax is essentialy like a regular guitar and can be played through any amp, use any effects you like just like any other guitar, befoe getting the POD I was playing my Variax through a Fender Twin and using an old Boss ME5 pedal boad.
The Acoustic models sound like a Piezo equipped regular acoustic.
Best idea is to pop down to your local music store and try one yourself.
The Line6 distributer is actually based in Melbourne

Hi Tyrone, I use a variaxe 300 and use the banjo sound on Copperhead Road and Dueling Banjos. The sound is very real. I also use the sitar for Walk Like and Egytptian. I hope this helps.
Don.

Hi all....newby here from Merseyside. Pleasure to be on board!
I've just ordered a Roland G20 guitar synth with the GK3 midi pick-up.... I'll be putting her through her paces over the next few weeks so i'll keep y'all updated! Can't wait! Only reason I got it was to midi up to my Tyros 2 to lay down authentic guitar backing tracks for live work... but ultimately I'd like to get it out and work with it live. Cheers. Tom.

i use the GR20 with a Brian Moore iGuitar, it sounds amazing, the GK3 pickup didn't work the way i wanted it to, but the one built into the iguitar is outstanding

The Roland VG 88 is ggod bet too - banjo stuff is cool - only 5 strings on your guitar work with that - proper banjo tuning, too.

Hi All, In regard to the Banjo sound from the Variaxe I use it for "Copperhead Road" Steve Earle and "Duelling Banjos" from the film deliverance. The audience thinks the banjo is awesome so do I. Cheers Don.
