Anyone out there using this unit? I am using a Roland G-70 and PSR 3000 for a back up. Is the Tyros as flimsy as the PSR 3000? What are the gains from the Tyros 2 Vs the PSR3000 except about $2,500.00 more in cost. Your thoughts.. Rocky www.jazzbluesanddiamonds.com

Hi Rocky, I am sure there was a thread on the T2, somewhere that gave an in depth run down. I will try and find it.

Rocky www.jazzbluesanddiamonds.comHi Rocky, there was a thread as Pat said which was started by Tony(tonedeff), who does give great informative posts on all the Yamaha Keyboards. You will find it here. midimart.proboards56.com/index.cgi?board=keyboard&action=display&thread=1169076729also we have a member called acre, he will also give you great information as he plays the T2. He took allot of time to gather some styles for me last week from his T2, so if you could drop him a PM im sure he will anwser any question you have. Thanks all...you have provided food for thought. Very hard to beat the Roland G-70.just wish it had a USB for portable loading Vs the Card. However, I can get just about all of the gig sets on the card.
I am going to watch the prices..I think the T2 is way over priced for a porta board...
I don't think there is much to gain that the crowd would notice over the PSR 3000. Yamaha seems to out date units more frequently than anyone I have seen. Sooo, just sounds like wait and get a board a year later and save 70%

70% would be an amazing saving, that's for sure. A wise move waiting, especially if you're already pleased with the one you have.

Hi Rocky!
I have the Tyros II and use to own the PSR3000. All I can say is the T2 is a huge leap sound and style wise over the 3000 BUT the 3000 was meant to be a stripped down version of the original T1. Now, Yamaha has released a cheaper version of the T2 in the PSR-900. Kind of a kick in the teeth to all T2 owners who forked out the big bucks in the first place but the T2 has a lot to offer. I use it mainly for live playing but I also have recorded with it in the studio. Fellow musicians and the public are amazed at the samples contained within. Depending on your usage, the PSR-900 would be a nice jump from the 3000. I'm not familiar with the Roland gear you mentioned so I can't offer comparisons. As for durability, the T2 is a plastic case verses the old metal cases of keyboards past. Do the math; you have to treat it gently. I find the big trade off to be in the weight. I did 90 shows last year with the T2 and the CP-33 pro stage piano. That's a lot of hauling and I'm getting too old to lift metal keyboards! My only real beef with the T2 is the poor grand piano sample. I firmly believe that Yamaha has not changed that sample since the PSR-2000. For close to $4,000.00 (Cnd) the piano should be as good as the CP-300!!. Hope this helps..........Lee

Thanks Lee.. I hear you loud and clear on the hauling of gear. My wife and I own it all, the PAs, lights, hundreds of pounds of wire, mikes, stands, keyboard stands, my two saxes/stands, da da da da da da!!!
I am 64, good thing my wife is 46, she helps a lot on setting up and everyone else helps with breaking down and loading. I keep them honest by giving them the option to invest in their own equipment and set up, or help with the workload and replacement of stuff that they break or abuse. Working pretty good so far. Long end of the stick, my wife handels the bookings and the money. LOL

With regards to the money, it sounds like our house Rocky! I'm 54 and in good shape but I don't see the point in hauling anymore weight than I have to. A year ago I decided to try and seek equipment that was in the 40 or less pounds category. It worked. My Tyros II is 27 pounds, the CP-33 is 41 pounds and the Yorkville NX-55 speakers (550 watts each) weigh in around 41 as well. My wife never attends my shows. She's asleep by the time I start our first set. Oh well, it's a night out. Regards.....Lee
