Hi Guys Just got back from my Holiday, and heard that last Saturday Ireland picked it's entry for the Eurovion Song Contest 2008, as I'm always interested to see what's latest on the Irish Music scene, I decided to check it out on You Tube, and found to my amazement that it is a Turkey/Vulture called Dustin who will be representing Ireland this year, here is a link to the song if you have not yet had the pleasure of listening to it ;D www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnsPfRdSU0QI'm wondering why none of you have yet put a request on the Midi forum for this song , as I'm sure you would all like to have it ready in your repertoire for forthcoming gigs, especially if it wins , I'm interested to know your thoughts on Dustin & the Song choice? ;D As we have so many Irish on the forum, I'd love to know what you think of this entry for your country. Also what our friends from the other country's think of this Turkey?? And in case you're wondering who good old Blighty has got this year as our entry, well we have a Good Old Fashioned ex Dustman called Andy, without the Bin!! Jacqui

Good Grief! What a Turkey!!! Who the hell voted for that entry, 5 year olds? I suggest that Turkey (the country) should probably come up with a moving Christy Moore style ballad in their attempt to establish a new national musical identity! Luckily for Ireland, the world at large loves an Irishman and we'll undoubtedly forgive this assault on our musical sensibilities eventually! God Bless All Here, Dave.

I think this whole Dustin the Turkey thing has to be seen in context as the whole Eurovision "song" contest has become a bit of joke, anyway. The acts winning of late are hardly great singers, are they? They are simply performers from a particular area of Europe where block voting ( 'neighbourly' voting) plays a major part. The following link has a survey on this block voting. www.songcontestvoting.com/eurovision/Here you can listen to last years wining entry from Siberia youtube.com/watch?v=qy-Ms4ytzkY

Does anyone, apart from 5 year olds, ever watch this Eurovision thing anyway? Surely nobody with any sense of musical taste can possibly refer to this fiasco as music? Can they? It must fall in to the same category as big brother and I'm not a celebrity get me out of here. I've often wondered why they don't leave them all in the outback for the crocs to eat. At least some benefit would occur to someone and something. Then they could fly the winners and losers for big brother out there too and make a programme about how the crocs did or didn't enjoy the taste of them. The contestants could be awarded points on how loudly they screamed or how beautifully they died. You know something like the Roman games. Gues I'd better drop a smiley or two in here just in case I'm misunderstood. (likely!) ;D From a seriously grumpy old man. Wonder if this conforms to MM rules? Perhaps it'll get the chop too? Ouch. The reason Dustin the Turkey won the song for Ireland is because the irish people have finally woke up to the fact that this competition is the biggest load of c*ap ever invented. Any singer/songwriter even tempted to enter needs the old head examined. Granted, in the past we had some good entries, as did the uk, but them days are gone. The whole point of Dustin in it is to extract the urine out of this load of rubbish. No serious singer would enter this excuse for a contest. "Go on Dustin you good thing, wear the Green White and Gold with pride".

Spot on Gerry! Hit the nail on the head there, mate. This was once a "song" contest but things have changed, sadly for the worse. IMHO George, I am beginning to worry about you, you seem obsessed with turkeys. Christ must be a great craic in your gaff ;d Simmo, you are now our official Crocodile Dundee ;d John, your post is too on the mark to be deleted. so no worries there.

Well, thanks to the Irish contingent for clearing that up! For a horrible moment there I thought that Dustin was about to herald a new direction in Irish popular music... just kidding, lads! It's certainly quite acceptable as a p!ss-take of the whole Eurovision fiasco but I still have a nagging suspicion that someone actually expects it to win! In any event, I checked out some of the other entries on You Tube and, judging by them, Dustin seems to have an outside chance! St Patrick's Day is coming up in a couple of weeks and we'll be doing 3 Irish venues over that weekend. I've dusted off all my Irish favourites but I guess I'll just have to hold my breath and pray that nobody requests the Turkey song... as if! Cheers, Dave.

Hi All Good to hear your opinions on all this Gobble-degoop!! I think that this (Tom) male Turkey is just looking for some attention, a little TLC, apparently ~Turkeys are friendly and curious. They become friendly with the farmer, but gobble at strangers. So they can be Tender! also they have a Dry side to them. I think they did ask him to go on Big Brother, but he told them all to "Get Stuffed" and went off in a Flap. It should be interesting to see what the outcome of the show is, after all they are used to the Weird & Wonderful, who could forget Lordi www.musicsnews.com/articles/1876/1/ , and then of course Dana International, Just a Sweet Transvestite who came out of the closet for the 1998 Eurovision. So why not a Turkey, I can't say I like the song choice much, but what does that matter, he's a fine looking Turkey, think he should Plump himself up a bit though, and he's obviously very talented, and has had a few albums out already, check out Where Do You Go To Your Ugly, a fine example of a Good Song Ruined www.last.fm/music/Dustin/Faith+Of+Our+Feathers and his other hits. So Yep, I think he has all the qualities to be a Winner, he's a Hot Favorite, think he should wear a coat on the night as we don't want a Cold Turkey do we. Jacqui
