Hi Everyone I would like to presume ALL of the singers in the Forum perform with accompaniments, but have you ever gone someplace and been requested to sing a song - R A W and with no guitar or any accompaniment to back you up ? I feel upset just thinking about it - i cant imagine doing such a thing. I cant help thinking how insecure we are without any backing music and I feel I shouldnt call myself a singer if I cant sing RAW. !! Those guys in American Idol did such a great job singing RAW in the prelims. THAT TAKES GUTS !!! Gosh, I need my guitar or my MidiMart Midis or my keyboards to accompany me and I definitely want my SM 58 Beta and echo reverb !!! Do share your thoughts and experiences .

A lot of Irish traditional is sung acappella,no backing. I've one song in my set that lends it's self to this style and it really goes down so well with the right crowd. Just close your eyes and put everything into the performance. It just melts.

my band performs "down to the river to pray" by Alison Krauss when we do church ceremonies, totally unaccompanied. i find it easier, as you do not have to pitch to a track, therefore you can find the exact key that suits

We sometimes do an Acappella (a cappella = without instruments, unaccompanied) version of Mercedes Benz by Janis Joplin, it just depends on whether or not the crowd is rowdy enough to do most of the work! lol One thing for sure, Shyam, you'd never catch me standing up in front of those opinionated Idol judges and singing my heart out like some of those brave kids, laying it all on the line for a chance at fame!

Gibbo it was so heartening to hear you're a down to earth musician. I would love to hear you play your acc. guitar with your wife on the piano. It'll be sheer joy to listen to you guys. When you do an acappella, dont you have the others doing the bass guitar and other instruments vocally ? It really is a treat to hear acappella singers The Flying Pickets were fantastic.. By the way,I agree with you - the laptop is ideal for storing all youir lyrics and displaying them,- I was going to try that but I think I'm going to get myself a 15"LCD monitor and connect my PSR 3000 from its video out. Ofcourse it'll mean a lot of work as I need to have the lyrics in the Midis I use, but well theres no gain without pain, huh ? Heres wishing you and your Mrs , many beautiful hours of making music. If and when I visit Australia, I hope to have the pleasure of hearing you. Cheers !

Paul, I truly admire you guys singing without any accompaniments. I wish I could pick up my guts to do that, but I guess I'm too dependent on my add ons.

as Jimmy G pointed out about the traditional singers they usually sing without any backing vocal or otherwise , its called ..sean nois..its a centuries old form of singing and to me is one of the most beautiful forms of singing that i have ever heard and is probably one of the most hardest to learn .. if you listen to someone singing sean nois you will hear music in their voices .. maybe some of the members frum ireland cud shed a wee bit more light on the subject

Sean nos is truly AMAZING, Cubb and I truly admire the talent. I wish I could train myself to sing unaccompanied . Do these singers use voice effects like a litlle bitty reverb ? Maybe with a little help like that, I could try and sing sean nos ! Does anyone have one or two sean nos Irish favourites on MP3 which I could listen to and maybe learn to imitate ? I guess its the little bitty Irish blood in me thats showing up !!!

Hi Shyam
Again a lot of the Welsh folk music is sung unaccompanied.
I have on many occasions sung totally unaccompanied, you can certainly put more feeling into a song without the constraint of a backing track.

Gerraint, do you have any recording of your song unaccompanied. You'll get awa with anything, anyway, Gerraint , with that DEEP RICH voice of yours. Do post one please. By the way, did Tom Jones ever sing unaccompanied ?

Dave, it was lovely and the lows are from the skinny guy arent they ? Unbelievable. By the way, you dont have a pic of yours in the Photo Gallery do you ? Just wanted to check if you're skinny too lol I can hit very low notes too but I remember, about fifteen years ago and I attempted one of the low passes and landed up coughing and coughing for nearly a week after that.!!! Blamed it on the cigarettes I did ...lol lol lol. I'm okay now, matured, practiced and more confident.

Hey Shyam, Yes, I really like the fact that the skinniest guy in the group has the deepest voice, with the effects and close-mic technique it's quite something. There IS actually a photo of me in the Mug Shot gallery under "Another Fast Forehead... Gibbo's". Here's the link; midimart.proboards56.com/index.cgi?board=photo&action=display&thread=1164290400 the "Fast Forehead" part refers to the racing lines of my hairstyle, hah! Cheers, Dave.

Hi Everyone on the forum..On the subject of singing without accompainment..I have done it a few times..once i sang Star Spangeled Banner and God Bless America accapella...You know, with all the sounds and different things on the keyboard I play and sing with I can see where a person might think all of the vocals might not be just me...so by singing accapella they can hear myvoice without any music and know that it is really me and not something prerecorded or something else..by the way I have a Yamaha psr 2100 arranger and believe me, it is a great sounding keyboard even though it is about 3 years old! Best Regards...RickandKaye(Violet Songbird)
