Has anyone been asked for proof of Public Liability Insurance? More and more clubs/pubs around here are asking for proof. On making inquiries for a policy I was quoted prices which would hardly make it viable to carry on performing. Until I joined Equity, which cost's £115 per year, and automatically gives you insurance for £5.million public liability,Plus cover for theft of equipment Etc. Also they will fight on your behalf if you have trouble at venues IE non payment of fees etc.So all in all not a bad deal, although I hope I don't need any of their services. Is there anyone out there who has had any experience of Equity good or bad.

I did have one venue who wanted a certificate of insurance, as well as a PAT test certificate for all my equipment, I could have provided the insurance, but as for PAT testing, no chance, so I just didnt bother with the Gigs

Hi Shezza I joined the Musicians Union. They include Public Liabiliy insurance. Free Insurance for your instruments.Other perks as well. I have only been asked for proof twice in the 6 years I have been playing out. As For PAT testing Geraint never been asked for that. I usually use a cut out curcuit plug and they normally accept that. I normally check my PA and leads and stands once a month.

geraint, I usually get asked about PAT testing if the venue is a council or government owned property.

sounds like communism is alive and well in the uk. Nothing to do with Communism! We have the same thing here in Australia. Our band is fully insured, we put aside about $10 per gig and when the insurance is due the money is there to cover it. To date we haven't been asked but I also work with an Elvis Tribute Show and because they are generally in bigger show rooms he is nearly always asked to supply his insurance details.
