Levi2,
I have found that recording them through your modules are far better sounding than converting.....well at least for me.
Can I get a copy of the midi file so I can record it and let you hear the difference?
It is a longer process then converting but I find I closer to real audio as long as you have a external module. If you use softsynth as your main unit I doubt there would be a difference.
I'm sure Glenn will have his say in this discussion also, I know he uses a converter program also and I don't have the one he uses to evaluate.

The Yamaha definitely sounds better. The choir voices are a lot better as well as the guitar sounds. I use both Yamaha and Roland soft synths for playing midi. Generally I think midis sound better on the Yamaha but there are the rare ones that sound fantastic on the Roland. BTW what is the name of the midi file?

Thanks for the info. I knew there was something familiar about it but I couldnt place the song. I have listened to a little bit of the Billy Fury version on the net since. It is a lot different to the other versions I know by Dean Martin and probably the best version by Ruby Winters.

I use both Roland and Yamaha soft synths not much difference. Also I have the Forte DXI soft synth its pretty muggy you can adjust the EQ but then the drums are to bright. I still like my old Alesis QS-6 and Roland GR-1 for recording. Using a soft synth has a few miliseconds delay that I can't get past.

I use both and, whilst the yamaha sounds best, most midi files are sequenced with inclinations towards the roland set up ie GS etc. I also use my creative sound card with soundfonts and that can be amazing!
