Here in the States, the average cost of a gallon of gas is $3.35 a gallon. I know that may be cheap in comparison with other countries. My problem is how do you ask for more money to do a gig when gas prices are so inflated? The customer is also experiencing the same gas costs and consequently does not feel that we deserve any increase in pay. I find that we (musicians) are still playing gigs based on 80's gas prices although prices have almost tripled from what they were back then. How do you guys handle the high transportation costs?

$1.40 a litre (unleaded) today (Tues) in Sydney! Though it will undoubtedly go up before the weekend I used to do a gig up the coast in another band back in the late eighties, I did the same venue recently and they are still paying the same fee! The clubs drinks, food, staff wages, everything else etc have all increased yet the poor old band's money stays the same........

In southern (Greek) Cyprus the price is 1.03 euros and in the north (Turkish) side it's 1.95 Turkish lira so at the moment it's a little cheaper in the south so it's worth filling up when I'm over there.

Hi Everyone Here’s an interesting and thought provoking article a friend sent me a while ago. It made me feel a lot better after I’d read it.!! The prices are in Indian Rupees, and you don’t really have to convert them to your currency to realize how true it is. However for those interested, a British Pound is equivalent to Rs.78.60 and a U.S.Dollar is equivalent t Rs.39.90, as of today. Over the weekend, I filled up my car's fuel tank, and I thought fuel has become really expensive after the recent price hike.
But then I compared it with other common liquids and did some quick calculations, and I felt a little better.
To know why, see the results below - you'll be surprised at how outrageous some other prices are !
Diesel (regular) in India: Rs.36 per litre (about 45 p.) Petrol (speed) in India: Rs.55 per litre (about 70 p) Coca Cola 330 ml can : Rs.20 = Rs.61 per litre Dettol antiseptic 100 ml Rs.20 = Rs.200 per litre Radiator coolant 500 ml Rs.160 = Rs.320 per litre Pantene conditioner 400 ml Rs.165 = Rs.413 per litre Medicinal mouthwash like Listerine 100 ml Rs.45 = Rs. 450 per litre Red Bull 150 ml can : Rs.75 = Rs.500 per litre Corex cough syrup 100 ml Rs.57 = Rs. 570 per litre Evian water 500 ml Rs. 330 = Rs. 660 per litre
Rs. 500 for a litre of WATER???!!! And the buyers don't even know the source (Evian spelled backwards is Naive.) Kores whiteout 15 ml Rs. 15 = Rs. 1000 per litre Old Spice after shave lotion 100 ml Rs. 175 = Rs. 1750 per litre Pure almond oil 25 ml Rs. 68 = Rs. 2720 per litre
And this is the REAL KICKER...
HP deskjet colour ink cartridge 21 ml Rs.1900 = Rs. 90476 per litre!!!
Now you know why computer printers are so cheap ? So they have you hooked for the ink !
So, the next time you're at the pump, don't curse our honorable Petroleum minister - just be glad your car doesn't run on cough syrup, after shave, coffee, or God forbid printer ink ! & dare you compare price of beer/ whiskey......

George, If we could bottle Shyam he would be priceless and none of us could afford him. Thank God he's free!
Sorry guys, I should have made it clear the prices I was quoting are for a litre of petrol.
I'm just wondering what happened to my "knee trembler" joke seems to have gone. Hope it wasn't too risque.
